Wyatt Maize Gashes Cardinals for 198 Rushing Yards; Panthers Win Third

Wyatt Maize gashed North Andrew for 198 rushing yards and Pattonsburg picked up 515 total yards and rolled past the Cardinals 74-42 Friday, keeping pace with Worth County and King City. Pattonsburg scored first, only for North Andrew to tie it at 8-8. But then it was Panthers all the way as they raced out to a 24-8 lead after one. They raised it to 52-24 by halftime and added a touchdown in the third quarter to make it 58-24. North Andrew tried to turn it into a track meet in the fourth quarter, but Pattonsburg kept pace with them to get the win. Gavin Humphrey added 29 yards and Camden Griffith added 16 as the Panthers rushed for 243 yards in 21 carries, an average of 11.6 yards.

The Panthers continued to pass the ball effectively. Gage Fortner was 17 for 23 for 247 yards, five scores, and no interceptions. Fortner got his bell rung late in the first half, but Camden Griffith came on to throw a 25-yard strike. Fortner returned in the second half.

Gavin Humphrey had 6 catches for 117 yards. Camden Griffith had 6 catches for 61 yards and Wyatt Maize had 4 catches for 69 yards. Pattonsburg did not turn the ball over. They scored ten times and converted seven of their extra point tries.

Defensively, Pattonsburg forced two North Andrew turnovers. Camden Griffith forced a fumble that was recovered by Gavin Humphrey. Griffith also added a pick.

Camden Griffith had 12 tackles. Collin Mason had 10, and Wyatt Maize 8. Ryker Fortner, who had his bell rung in the Mound City game, came back and had 7 tackles. Gavin Humphrey had 6, Alex Young 5, Jace Estrada 4, Drake Sperry 3, Remington White 3, Beau Gibson 2, and Andrew Craig 1.

For the win, coach Brandon Burkhead will have to shave his beard. He will look different for the Princeton game this Friday.
