Lani Briggs Turns Triple Play, Shamrocks Down North Andrew for Second Time

Lani Briggs went three for four with a triple, North Harrison cut down on their errors, and they made the long road trip to North Andrew worthwhile as they came away with an 8-4 win Thursday. It was their second win over the Cards, and for the second time, they had to hang on by their fingernails for the win, with Briggs bailing them out with a triple play. The hitting was there, with seven different Shamrocks getting hits that night. The fielding was there as well, with the Shamrocks only making one error that night.

The teams went scoreless for the first inning, but Raegan Hogan beat out an infield hit to start the Shamrock second. She stole second and third and came home on Jaxcynn Hansel's groundout to make it 1-0.

With one out in the Shamrock third, Addison Milligan beat out an infield hit. Hali Smith laid down a perfect sac bunt and beat out the throw. The ball got away, and Smith took second and Milligan third. Lani Briggs grounded out to score Milligan to make it 2-0.

But then Hali Smith started fighting the strike zone, walking the first three Cardinals in the third. Teigan Miller grounded out to score Bradynn Wilson to make it 2-1. Lilly Richardson beat out an infield hit to score Haidyn Andersen to knot it at 2-2. Emma Curran lined out to Andi Nail at first, who took extra bases away from her. Presleigh Ford scored on a passed ball to put North Andrew up 3-2 before Hali Smith got out of the inning by freezing Briley Rainez for the final out.

North Harrison got one run back in the fourth with two outs when Andi Nail kept the inning alive with a base hit to left. Kathryn Parkhurst doubled to left and the cutoff throw got away, allowing Nail to score from first to tie it at 3-3.

Becca Welling and Addison Milligan made catches in the field to keep North Andrew off the board in the fourth.

Addison Milligan singled to right to lead off the Shamrock fifth. She took second and third on passed balls. Hali Smith reached on a dropped third strike and as the ball got away, Milligan scored to put North Harrison back in front 4-3. Lani Briggs then tripled to right, scoring Smith to make it 5-3. Ava Rinehart doubled to left to score Briggs to make it 6-3.

Becca Welling continued to play lights-out defense in the field, catching Teigan Miller's pop fly in the Cardinal fifth.

In the Shamrock seventh, Lani Briggs beat out an infield hit to lead off. Ava Rinehart forced her at second and then took second on a wild pitch. Raegan Hogan singled to score Rinehart and make it 7-3. Jaxcynn Hansel singled to right to move Hogan to second. Andi Nail singled to left to score Hogan to make it 8-3.

But North Andrew started to make things interesting in the seventh as Hali Smith plunked Jersey Ramsey to start the inning. Bradynn Wilson doubled as Ramsey held up to make sure the ball was not caught and could only take third. Hilde Wheeler walked, and Presleigh Ford singled to make it 8-4, keep the bases loaded, bring the tying run to the plate, and bring up North Andrew's best hitter, Teigan Miller. But Miller hit a shot right at shortstop Lani Briggs, who threw to Jaxcynn Hansel to double Wilson off third. Hansel threw to Andi Nail to double Ford off first for the final out.

Lani Briggs had three hits, including a triple. Raegan Hogan and Andi Nail had two hits. Ava Rinehart, Addison Milligan, Jaxcynn Hansel, and Kathryn Parkhurst had hits. Ava Rinehart and Kathryn Parkhurst had doubles. Raegan Hogan stole two bases.
