Cole Ruby gashed North Andrew with some big plays and Worth County grounded Levi McAfee and the Cardinal running attack with a 54-8 win in a game called in the third quarter.
North Andrew elected to defer until the second half, but Worth County took it right down the field. Hayden Sanders got a ten-yard sweep into Cardinal territory at the 32 and Cole Ruby picked up 11 to the 21. They were faced with second and 14, but Hayden Sanders scrambled to the eight and a first down. Brayden Stevens picked up two and Cole Ruby got a block from Ryder Smyser to score with 9:25 left in the first quarter. Brayden Stevens was tackled short of the end zone on the extra point try, the only time the Tigers would miss.
North Andrew made no secret of what they wanted to do; feed their quarterback, Levi McAfee the ball 40 times a game and make other teams tried to stop them. They started on the 33 and McAfee picked up gains of six and three. Ethan Lininger batted down a third down pass and McAfee picked up five more and a first down. When the heat got to be too great on McAfee, they simply handed off to Adler Miller, and he picked up four to the 29. McAfee showed he could throw against Pattonsburg; he threw some nice balls into his receivers, but Lucas Frisch broke up a deep shot on third and six. McAfee picked up four more, but then Lucas Frisch tackled him short of the first down at the 25 and Worth County took over. Hayden Sanders picked up four, Bo Collins caught a short pass for seven to the 36, and Hayden Sanders got a block from Cole Ruby and took it to the house from 44 yards out with 4:42 left. Brayden Stevens got blocks from Bo Collins and Lucas Frisch and added the extra points to make it 14-0.
Dylan Smith rung the returner's bell on the 26, and Bo Collins and Wyatt Hill combined on a sack to make it second and 21. A false start pushed it back to the 10 and McAfee was dropped by Lucas Frisch and Jude Archer to the seven. Lucas Frisch blew up a screen pass and the Cardinals were forced to punt. It only took them once play to convert as Cole Ruby got a block from Hayden Sanders and was off to the races. Brayden Stevens got a block from Sawyer Thurman and added the extra points to make it 22-0 with 3:07 left.
The whole focus of the defense was to stop McAfee, and that left Miller open for a 34-yard scamper to the Tiger 31 on the Cardinals next series. But North Andrew tried to spring McAfee four times, and Worth County held, holding him to nine yards on four tries and got the ball back on downs at the 22. Lucas Frisch got loose for a long run and a facemask penalty put it on the ten. But Hayden Sanders tried to force it to a receiver who was not open instead of Bo Collins or Caleb New who were wide open in the end zone and Adler Miller got a pick and returned it all the way back to the 39.
But North Andrew could not take advantage of the gift as they were set behind the sticks by a holding penalty. McAfee got loose and took off to the Tiger 26 for a first down, but on an isolation pass play, Wyatt Hill and Card receiver Isaac Coats tangled up and the ball was incomplete. Jacob Hill picked up 11 for a first down to the 15, but Jude Archer met Miller and then a jet sweep went nowhere as Bo Collins stayed home and dropped Jacob Hill for a loss of five. Sawyer Thurman and Wyatt Hill broke up pass plays, and the Tigers had the ball back on downs.
Cole Ruby picked up 34 on the Tigers first play and Brayden Stevens got a block from Sawyer Thurman for 11 yards to the 15. Cole Ruby met Miller and was stopped for a loss, but Hayden Sanders got a block from Lucas Frisch and took it to the house with 6:48 left in the first half. Bo Collins caught the extra point pass to make it 30-0.
But on its next series, North Andrew aired it out when McAfee threw a ball a little too far, but Miller caught up to it and took it to the Tiger 16. A defensive holding put it on the eight. Ethan Lininger met McAfee for no gain, and McAfee picked up two to the six before Sawyer Thurman made the stop. But Isaac Coats beat Wyatt Hill and caught a pass to put North Andrew on the board with 3:15 left in the half. On the extra point try, Jude Archer covered the pass play perfectly, getting a hand on the ball, but Coats somehow came up with it anyway to make it 30-8.
With nothing to lose, North Andrew tried to onside kick it, but Lance Runde fell on it at the 39. Lucas Frisch picked up six on a quick hitter, Brayden Stevens took a counter to the Cardinal 29, and then Cole Ruby got blocks from Lucas Frisch and Caleb New and took it to the house with 2:26 left. That play put Cole Ruby over the 100-yard mark with 124 yards at that point. Brayden Stevens ran in a counter to make it 38-8.
North Andrew nearly answered back after being faced with fourth and three at their own 22. They lined up as though to punt, but instead, McAfee kept the drive going for a first down at the 29. McAfee picked up 16 more to the 35. Hill was open on a long pass, but the ball was left too far. A pass interference put it on the Tiger 20, but Sawyer Thurman broke up a pass intended for the end zone as time expired.
With the rain starting to come down at the start of the second half, Wyatt Hill pinned McAfee on his own 13 after the kickoff. Two carries by Miller picked up a first down, but Wyatt Hill blew up a screen to force North Andrew to punt. The defenders may have come too close to Jude Archer, and the ball caromed off of him. But Sawyer Thurman pounced on it at the Tiger 28. Hayden Sanders faked a handoff and fooled everyone as nobody knew he had the ball, and he took it all the way to the Carinal six. Sanders fumbled the slick ball on the next snap, but recovered it and handed off to Brayden Stevens, who blasted his way into the end zone. Cole Ruby drove through a defender and scored to make it 46-8.
Jordan Dannar made a big hit on the kickoff, pinning the Cards at their own 20. McAfee ran into a wall and then met Ethan Lininger to set up third and eight. Wyatt Hill stopped McAfee to set up fourth and five at their own 25. This time, Jude Archer got a block from Ryder Smyser and ran it all the way back to the Cardinal 23. The Tigers only needed one play to get in as Lucas Frisch got a block from Caleb New and took it to the house. Hayden Sanders rolled out to his right on the extra point try and found Bo Collins all alone in the back of the end zone to make it 54-8.
North Andrew threw in the towel at the end of the third quarter.
