Freshman Raegan Hogan had her biggest night as a Shamrock as two massive rallies helped them stun King City 12-9 Tuesday night, September 9th. She had two hits, including a double, and three runs batted in. North Harrison has been loaded from one through five; their success this year has depended on how the rest of the lineup does at the plate. Their six through nine hitters scored five runs, got three hits, and drove in four runs, enough for them to get the win.
King City had shown a lot of plate discipline on offense and solid fielding on defense at Albany, but it unraveled in Tuesday's game, with King City committing eight errors during the game to four for North Harrison.
They picked up where they left off in the first inning when Kinley Potter singled home Grace Whorton. But North Harrison got out of the inning when Raegan Hogan caught Kamryn Miller's pop fly in foul territory and Gracy Davis popped out to shortstop Lani Briggs.
Beatrix Bowden, who did all she could for King City with two doubles and a triple, crushed a triple to right field to start the second and Cayla Donovan grounded out to second to score her to make it 2-0. Later, Delaney Hontz scored on an error to make it 3-0. First baseman Andi Nail snared Brylin Armfield's line drive to prevent any further damage.
But consecutive errors by King City in the second were their undoing. Andi Nail walked to load the bases after a seven pitch at-bat. Becca Welling forced Addison Milligan at home, but Raegan Hogan got the first of her big blows, a double to center as Jaxcynn Hansel and Andi Nail scored to cut King City's lead to 3-2. Kathryn Parkhurst singled on a pop fly to center and Hogan and Welling held up. The top of the order was back up for North Harrison and Lani Briggs doubled to center to score Welling and Hogan and putting Parkhurst on third. That put North Harrison up 4-3. Hali Smith drove in two more when she singled in Briggs and Parkhurst. Ava Rinehart singled Smith to second and Jaxcynn Hansel singled home Smith to make it 7-3.
King City began its comeback bit in the fifth when Grace Whorton walked and Brylin Armfield singled her home all the way from first to make it 7-4. Shamrock catcher Ava Rinehart picked her off, but Kinley Potter walked and Kamryn Miller singled her to second. Potter stole third and came home on Gracy Davis' groundout to make it 7-5.
The Wildkats seemingly completed their comeback in the sixth when they pushed across three runs to make it 8-7. But the top of the order was up for North Harrison and Lani Briggs singled to center to lead off. Hali Smith got a bunt single. Ava Rinehart lined out for the third out, but Addison Milligan singled to right to score Briggs and tie it 8-8. Jaxcynn Hansel then tripled to center and scored Hali Smith and Addison Milligan to break the tie and put North Harrison in front 10-8. Andi Nail reached second on an error as Hansel scored to make it 11-8. Becca Welling laid down a sac bunt to move Nail to third and Raegan Hogan singled home Nail to make it 12-8. Bowden scored a run for King City to cut it to 12-9, but Andi Nail grabbed the last out to preserve the win.
