North Nodaway Accepts Danielle Johnson’s Resignation

The North Nodaway Board of Education accepted the resignation of teacher Danielle Johnson as an elementary teacher at the end of the 2025-26 school year. She is retiring.

The board approved the 2025-26 substitute teacher list. They are Hope Reeves, Angela Herndon, Matthew Loudon, Ashlie Marriott, Billie McCoy, Ronda Brown, Todd Simmons, Stephanie Turpin, Janelle David, Amy Schreck, Ron Scroggie, Kelsey Barcus, Katie Steward, and Traci Westfall.

The school received a letter from the Missouri Office of Special Education stating that the school is in compliance with all state and federal regulations and that no corrective actions are required.

The school received four bids for a replacement desktop laser cutter. X-Tool bid $4,798.99. Northern Tool bid $5,299. Swing Design bid $5,099. Wal-Mart bid $5,099. The board awarded the bid to X-Tool.

The board voted to donate $10,000 towards the purchase of a new electronic sign for Pickering.

Elementary Principal Heather Townsend reported that the elementary school hosted Grandparents Day September 5th.

The school recently conducted bus evacuation, earthquake, and fire drills.

Individual school photos were taken September 5th. The dentist came on September 10th.

Both the Elementary and the High School honored Nicki Herndon for IT Professional Day on September 16th.

Teachers and students have been working on implementing the school’s literacy plan.

High School principal Cody Jenkins reported that the school conducted its earthquake, fire, tornado, and shelter in place drills. Every classroom got an updated map for tornado and fire evacuations.

Themes were announced for Homecoming. The theme is, “Around the World.” Tuesday is Jet Lag Day, with students wearing pajamas. Wednesday is Playing in Brazil Day with students wearing favorite sports jerseys. Thursday is Safari in Africa Day, with students dressing in camo and safari gear. Friday is Party in the USA Day; students will wear Platte Valley colors.

The history class observed Patriot Day on 9/11. Some of the other classes did activities as well.

Around 20-25 grandparents participated in Grandparents Day.

Superintendent Chris Turpin reported that the filming of The Pastor will take place at the school on October 28th.

Todd Whitaker spoke Monday at the 275 Conference Professional Development Day. He was a principal and coach at North Nodaway in 1986 and 1987.

Mr. Turpin reported that he is working with the booster club to replace some windows in the crow’s nest and with the PTO about getting a poster making machine for the teachers.

The Dribbler’s Club is getting ready to start again this year.
