Kristen Tracy reverted to the form that helped Worth County bring down Trenton at the start of the year and Worth County cooled off a red hot North Harrison squad 10-0 and won their fourth straight to go to 6-2. Both sides came into the game with one conference loss. Both sides had to win if they were to have any hope of catching up with Princeton. Both sides game in with winning streaks, with North Harrison having won their last two and Worth County having won their last three. With the win, Worth County got right back in the thick of things as Stanberry beat Princeton 7-5 Thursday to hand them their first conference loss. With two conference losses, North Harrison will have to have some outside help if they are to win a share of the title, assuming they lose no more conference games.
Kristen Tracy's pitching helped propel the Tigers to the key win that kept them in the hunt for the conference title. She cut down on her walks, only giving out one free pass after giving up three against Stanberry. She had been fighting the strike zone during their losing streak. The fielding behind her was solid, with no errors. After the Tigers erased a Shamrock rally in the first, Tracy was able to get soft contact the rest of the way and the fielders were able to make plays behind her. North Harrison had their chances, but ran their way out of potential big innings in the first and fourth.
Lani Briggs reached on a bad hop single that took a crazy bounce on Kambree Briner at second. But Tiger catcher Audrey Runde promptly erased her at second trying to steal. That loomed up strongly as Hali Smith singled and Ava Rinehart walked. But Addison Milligan popped out to Rylee Ruckman at short and Jaxcynn Hansel hit a grounder to Briner at second, and Rinehart got tangled up with Briner and got called out for interference to end the inning.
Addison Milligan made a great play at third to get Riley Ridge out, but then Kambree Briner hit a shot off Hali Smith's leg and reached on a scratch hit. Kristen Tracy singled to right and went to second on the throw to third as Briner was safe. Audrey Runde walked and Megan Tracy singled to left. The ball got away from Kathryn Parkhurst and all three runs scored and Tracy reached third. Rylee Ruckman grounded out to score her to make it 4-0.
Rayleigh Smith walked and Kambree Briner singled her to third in the second inning. Briner stole second and Kristen Tracy singled to right center to score two to make it 6-0. Audrey Runde's fly ball was dropped by Parkhurst in left, putting her on second and Tracy on third. An errant pickoff throw got away into left field, scoring two more runs to make it 8-0.
Lani Briggs got a bad hop single to short and Hali Smith doubled her to third with one out in the Shamrock third. But Ava Rinehart popped out to Megan Tracy at first and Addison Milligan grounded out to end the threat.
North Harrison finally got Kambree Briner out in the Tiger third as center fielder Jaxcynn Hansel had a great running catch.
In the Shamrock fourth, Jaxcynn Hansel hit a pop fly down the first base line that looked like trouble. But Kambree Briner made a great running catch for the first out. Raegan Hogan singled to right, and right fielder Rayleigh Smith made a great play to hold her there. Becca Welling, who hit two balls hard but right at people, hit a screamer, but right at first baseman Megan Tracy. She dove and hit the bag for the double play before Hogan could scramble back to first.
Kristen Tracy singled to left to start the Tiger fourth. Audrey Runde hit a grounder to second. Becca Welling tried to tag Tracy going past her, but Tracy outran the tag attempt and everybody was safe. They moved to second and third and an errant throw scored Tracy and put Runde on third. Megan Tracy singled Runde home to make it 10-0.
Lani Briggs got her third hit, a double, to keep the game going, but Hali Smith grounded out to end the game.
