Kambree Briner, Riley Ridge Have Big Nights in Wild 12-10 Win

Kambree Briner and Riley Ridge both had big nights Tuesday, September 2nd as Worth County hung on for a wild 12-10 win over North Andrew. Kambree Briner had four hits and Riley Ridge three more.

The Tigers had 15 hits for the game, none of them for extra bases. Audrey Runde and Megan Tracy had 2 while Kristen Tracy, Addie Gray, Rylee Ruckman, and Keira Hardy all had 1.

As a team, the Tigers stole 16 bases. Audrey Runde, Kambree Briner, and Rylee Ruckman all had 3. Megan Tracy and Riley Ridge had 2, while Keira Hardy, Kristen Tracy, and Rylee Ruckman had 1.

Despite all that, the Tigers had to cling to a lead the rest of the way after building up an 8-0 lead.

Kristen Tracy singled in Kambree Briner in the first for Worth County’s first run of the game. Tracy stole second and Audrey Runde singled her in to make it 2-0 after one.

Riley Ridge made a pair of catches in center field to end any North Andrew threats.

Riley Ruckman reached on an error to start the Tiger second. She stole second and advanced to third on a groundout by Keira Hardy. Rayleigh Smith reached on an error after fouling off three different pitches and Ruckman scored to make it 3-0. Riley Ridge beat out an infield hit to short and the runners took second and third on an error. Kambree Briner singled them both home to make it 5-0.

Rylee Ruckman hit a pop fly single and stole second to start the Tiger third. Keira Hardy beat out an infield hit as Ruckman took third. Hardy stole second. Riley Ridge beat out another infield hit as Ruckman scored to make it 6-0 and Hardy took third. Ridge stole second. Kambree Briner grounded out as Hardy scored to make it 7-0 and Riley Ridge took third. Kristen Tracy reached first on a dropped third strike as the ball got away and Ridge scored to make it 8-0.

But then all hell started to break loose in the Cardinal fourth as Presleigh Ford and Teigan Miller singled to start the inning. As North Andrew was teeing off on Kristen Tracy, Megan Tracy came in to pitch, but she fought the strike zone and Kristen came back in. The first six North Andrew batters reached safely, and there were two errors as well. Kristen Tracy struck out two, but then walked a batter to force in a run to make it 8-5 and Teigan Miller singled to make it 8-6. But then one of the North Andrew runners apparently thought it was ball four and tried to come home, only to be tagged out by Runde to end the inning.

Worth County got two runs back in the fifth when Audrey Runde singled in Kambree Briner, stole second, and went to third when the throw got away. Megan Tracy singled in Runde to put Worth County up 10-6.

Two walks and two singles drew North Andrew closer in the fifth to make it 10-7 and Lilly Richardson scored on a passed ball to cut it to 10-8. But Kambree Briner caught a pop fly at second and Riley Ridge caught a fly ball in center to keep Worth County in front. Addison Gray and Ridge caught fly balls in the sixth to keep the Cardinals off the board.

In the seventh, Worth County got what turned out to be key insurance runs when Riley Ridge beat out a bunt single to start the inning. She stole second and Kambree Briner reached on an error as Ridge took third. Briner stole second. Kristen Tracy flied out to center to score Ridge and Briner tagged up and advanced as well. Audrey Runde apparently struck out, but the ball got away and Briner scored to make it 12-8.

But Worth County had to cling to its fingernails after the first two North Andrew batters walked to start the Cardinal seventh and Bradynn Wilson singled. Cambrielle Steeby walked to force in a run to make it 12-9. Presleigh Ford flied out to Rayleigh Smith in right, but nobody could advance. Teigan Miller reached on an error to score Hilde Wheeler and make it 12-10, but Briley Rainez struck out looking and Rayleigh Smith made her second catch of the inning to preserve the win.
