Pattonsburg’s softball team won its rematch against North Harrison in the second round of the Albany Tournament Saturday 10-7 as Jayden Goble and Addie Iddings had big days at the plate. Addison Milligan was a bright spot for the Shamrocks, getting two hits, including a triple.
After their first slugfest on Tuesday, September 2nd, both teams had a rough outing with Pattonsburg being run ruled by Albany in their conference game and then by Princeton to start the tournament. North Harrison was run ruled by Stanberry 16-1 and then had to turn around and play the other favorite to win the conference in Albany. They jumped out to a 2-1 lead and made it stand up until the fourth inning, but a nine run fifth inning handed Albany a 12-2 win.
Jayden Goble singled to start the game for North Harrison and took second on a wild pitch. North Harrison nearly got out of the inning as Addie Iddings was called out on strikes and Isabelle Burger popped out to Andi Nail at first. But a dropped fly ball allowed Goble to score and Pattonsburg was up 1-0.
Just like last time, North Harrison was able to strike back as Jaxcynn Hansel reached on an error and Ava Rinehart was hit by a pitch. Addison Milligan singled to right to score Jaxcynn Hansel to tie it at 1-1 and put Rinehart on third. Milligan stole second and Hali Smith grounded out to score Rinehart and put Milligan on third. Raelin Hogan slapped a single to right to score Milligan and make it 3-1.
In the Pattonsburg second, Cheyenne Miller reached on a dropped throw and made it to second. Jayden Goble singled home Miller to make it 3-2. Addie Iddings singled to right to move Goble to third and took second on the throw to third. Jayden Goble scored on a wild pitch to tie it at 3-3. Iddings stole third and came home on an errant throw to make it 4-3. Isabelle Burger walked and Kaitlyn Estes tripled home Clare Christensen (running for Burger) to make it 5-3.
Pattonsburg added to their lead in the third when Emersyn McCrary walked and Rosalynn Cameron singled her to third. Cameron stole second. Cheyenne Miller grounded out to score McCrary and Jayden Goble grounded out to score Cameron to make it 7-3.
But North Harrison got new life in its half of the third when Ava Rinehart reached on a dropped third strike to start the inning and stole second. Addison Milligan tripled off the right field wall to score Rinehart to make it 7-4 and Rinehart scored on a wild pitch to make it 7-5.
The next two batters were out, but Becca Welling kept the inning alive when she went after a ball with an uppercut swing and dropped it into right field for a base hit. She took second on a wild pitch and Andi Nail singled to center to make it 7-6. She took second on a passed ball. She took third on a dropped pop fly and scored on a wild pitch to make it 7-7.
The game stayed tied until the fifth inning, but then a flurry of timely hits put Pattonsburg in front to stay. Rosalynn Cameron singled, Cheyenne Miller tripled to the wall in right, Jayden Goble shot one fair past third for a double, and Addie Iddings doubled to the right field wall to make it 10-7 and North Harrison couldn’t answer before time was called.
