Questions Raised About Data Center Water Capacity

Scott Wilson asked the Nodaway County Commissioners at their regular meeting Tuesday about flow capacity for the Evergy generation facility. At the Rural Water District meeting last month, Evergy had requested a flow rate of 150 gallons per minute, which equates to 216,000 gallons per day. “This is a question for the developers,” said Mr. Wilson. “Will this flow rate support the White Cloud Generation LLC? If not, what is needed, and what is the reasoning for the difference in flow rate required?” The White Cloud Generation permit application is calling for 600 megawatts of generation, while the Evergy substation is planned for 880 megawatts. This means that the White Cloud Generation turbines would generate around 68.18% of the generation that Evergy would have. Mr. Wilson said that at 70% water usage, that would equate to 151,200 gallons of water per day, or 105 gallons per minute. “I’m calling on you to ask the developer one simple question. I want an answer by next week, or if they’re unable to answer, then why not?”

Susie Strauch reported that GRM had marked its lines in the area, suggesting that more work is being planned for the area.

Commissioner Chris Burns said that the county had not yet retained a consultant, and that they were planning to talk to one. The commission went into closed session Tuesday to talk to the lawyer. Commissioner Bill Walker promised to have more answers by Thursday. 

Ms. Strauch once again brought up the J-turn at 71 and the Arkoe road. “It’s ridiculous how many near-misses there are there,” she said. “It’s way out of our hands,” said Commissioner Walker. Commissioner Burns agreed to call the area engineer. “It’s amazing nobody’s gotten killed yet,” said Ms. Strauch. “When those grain trucks start running shortly, they can’t just stop.”

Regarding zoning, Commissioner Scott Walk said that the next step was to meet with their lawyer. Commissioner Burns said he would get information from similar-sized counties in the state that have zoning. He said that they had gotten a 144-page zoning draft from the attorney.

Assessor Rex Wallace talked about the risks of zoning. “The first time someone builds something without a permit, it’s a lawsuit waiting to happen,” said Mr. Wallace. “To know what people are building is great for my office, but it could come back to bite.” Another question was on enforcement. He noted that when Polk Township had zoning, the Prosecutor’s Office did not want to get involved and that the zoning enforcer eventually quit, since it was an unpaid position. Polk Township’s regulations had been extensive and had covered things like dog houses and chicken houses. 

Mr. Wallace said that if they were going to use county resources, data centers needed to pay their full share of taxes like everyone else. “And why don’t they put it on unproductive land,” asked Ms. Strauch. 

Asked about any land transfers, Mr. Wallace said he had seen a lot of leases recently, but not any land transfers that raised flags. 

Mr. Wallace noted that most of Nodaway County is under an Enhanced Enterprise Zone, which gives tax breaks to businesses that locate there. It covers all the county except for the West Nodaway School District. He said that a board could add data centers to restricted categories, which would require them to pay their full share of taxes. The proposed data center in question is located in the South Nodaway School District. Worth County also has an Enhanced Enterprise Zone covering most of the county, but the board overseeing it has been dormant for 15 years.

Amy Ziegler of United Electric, asked about electric rates going up, said that it has nothing to do with data centers. “We raise our rates when our provider raises theirs,” she said. Maryville has been raising its water rates due to building a massive treatment facility to address taste and odor issues in the water system and to replace an outdated system. 

Area Courthouse, Police, and Crime Reports for September 2nd, 2026

On August 18th, Cindy Kendrick (46) of Peculiar (MO) pleaded guilty in Nodaway County Associate Circuit Court to a charge of Stealing. She was fined $250 plus costs by Judge Robert Rice.

On August 18th, Judge Robert Rice ordered the extradition of Lester Tabor (45) of Davenport (IA) to Scott County (IA) to face a Parole Violation charge.

On August 18th, Travis Husing (56) of Tarkio failed to appear in Nodaway County Associate Circuit Court to face a charge of Violation of Protection Order. A warrant was issued and bond was denied.

On August 18th, Daniel David (40) of Maryville pleaded guilty in Nodaway County Associate Circuit Court to charges of DWI and Operating Vehicle Without Properly Equipped Bumpers. He was placed on two years probation by Judge Robert Rice and Fined $279 plus costs. Defendant must complete SATOP and the Midwest Victim Impact Program. 

On August 18th, Anna Barlow (40) of Clarinda pleaded guilty in Nodaway County Associate Circuit Court to a charge of Stealing. She was placed on two years probation by Judge Robert Rice. Defendant has made restitution to the victim. Defendant must complete shoplifting education class. 

On August 18th, Michael Jacobs (34) of Maryville failed to appear in Nodaway County Associate Circuit Court on a probation violation hearing. The defendant was on probation for Peace Disturbance. Bond was denied.

On August 18th, Melvin Fincher (40) of Rolla failed to appear in Nodaway County Associate Circuit Court for his preliminary hearing. A warrant was issued and bond denied. The defendant is charged with two counts of Stealing (Felony). 

On August 18th, Joshua Pyle (22) of Richmond pleaded guilty in Nodaway County Associate Circuit Court to charges of DWI and Driving Without Properly Equipped Bumpers. He was placed on two years probation by Judge Robert Rice. Defendant was fined $500 plus costs. Defendant must complete SATOP and the Midwest Victim Impact Program. 

On August 18th, Amanda Smith (46) of Union Star pleaded guilty in Nodaway County Associate Circuit Court to a charge of Failure to Drive on Right Half of Roadway. She was fined $50.50 plus costs by Judge Robert Rice.

On August 19th, Caden Achterberg (20) of Albany pleaded guilty in Gentry County Associate Circuit Court to charges of Careless & Imprudent Driving and Minor in Possession of Marijuana. He was assessed $415.50 in fines and costs by Judge Joel Miller. 

On August 19th, Lucio Cuveas (39) of Bethany pleaded guilty in Gentry County Associate Circuit Court to charges of Speeding (26+ mph over) and Driving WHile Revoked. He was assessed $636 in fines and costs by Judge Joel Miller.

On August 19th, Gentry County Prosecutor Jessica Jones filed charges against David DeLuna (48) of Albany alleging Peace Disturbance and Assault. 

On August 19th, Gentry County Prosecutor Jessica Jones filed charges against Ian Albert (18) of Pattonsburg alleging Tampering With Motor Vehicle (Felony). Bond was set at $4,500, cash or corporate surety. An affidavit from the Gentry County Sheriff's Department alleges the defendant stole a dirt bike valued at $7,000.

On August 19th, Harrison County Prosecutor Michael Wulff filed charges against Dillon Bennett (28) of Eagleville alleging Leaving the Scene (Felony). Bond was set at $7,500, cash only. An affidavit from the Bethany Police Department alleges the defendant smashed a utility pole and then left the scene. The damages were estimated at around $1,779.25.

On August 20th, Judge Robert Rice ordered the extradition of Adam Ross (32) of Bedford to Taylor County to face a charge of Domestic Assault.

On August 20th, Judge Robert Rice ordered the extradition of Michaela McDaniel to Johnson County (KS) to face charges of Obstruction of Legal Proceeding and Violation of Protection Order. 

On August 20th, Daniel Score (39) of Bethany pleaded guilty in Harrison County Circuit Court to charges of Property Damage (Felony), DWI (Felony), No Valid License, and Careless & Imprudent Driving. He was sentenced to four years in the Missouri Department of Corrections. Court retains jurisdiction and the DOC will make recommendations regarding incarceration or probation. Defendant was fined $57.50 and ordered to make $3,560.20 in restitution.

On August 20th, Cody Tucker (32) of Grant City pleaded guilty in Harrison County Circuit Court to a charge of Burglary. He was sentenced to 90 days in jail by Judge Matthew Krohn.

On August 20th, Jason Brogan (45) of Diamond (MO) pleaded guilty in Harrison County Circuit Court to two counts of Non-Support (Felony). He was placed on five years probation by Judge Matthew Krohn. Defendant must pay $300 towards the Law Enforcement Restitution Fund, pay $150 per month towards arrearages, and serve 30 days shock time with credit for time served. 

On August 20th, Danny Manyer (24) of Kansas City pleaded guilty in Harrison County Circuit Court to charges of Tampering with Motor Vehicle (Felony), Driving While Revoked, and Failure to Drive on Right Half of Roadway. He was placed on five years probatoin by Judge Jay Hemenway. Defendant was fined $60.50 and ordered to serve 15 days in jail with credit for time served.

On August 20th, Trenton Hauk (30) of Wayland (MO) pleaded guilty in Harrison County Circuit Court to charges of Unlawful Possession of a Firearm (Felony), Possession of Burglary Tools (Felony), and Possession of Drug Paraphernalia. He was sentenced to five years in the Missouri Department of Corrections by Judge Matthew Krohn, concurrent with each other and consecutive to other cases.

On August 20th, the Missouri State Highway Patrol reported that a 20 year old Des Moines man was injured after the SUV he was driving struck a traffic arrow board sign on I-35. 

On August 22nd, Daviess County Prosecutor Andrea Beth Gibson filed charges against April Ricketson (39) of Kansas City alleging two counts Possession of Controlled Substance (Felony) and Possession of Drug Paraphernalia. Bond was denied. On April 22nd, Daviess County Prosecutor Andrea Beth Gibson filed charges against Thomas Reed (58) of Independence alleging two counts Possession of Controlled Substance (Felony), Possession of Drug Paraphernalia, No Valid License, No Insurance, Speeding, and No Seat Belt. Bond was set at $25,000 cash only. Defendant must wear drug patch. No contact with co-defendant. On August 25th, Daviess County Prosecutor Andrea Beth Gibson filed an additional charge against Ricketson alleging Possession of Controlled Substance (Felony). 

On August 24th, the Iowa State Highway Patrol reported that a 41 year old Maryville man was killed after the vehicle he was driving left the road, entered a ditch, and struck a tree at the 3100 block of Cole Avenue in Taylor County. 

On August 26th, Judge Rebecca McGinley ordered the extradition of Troy Hurkman (30) of Albany from Gentry County to Yellowstone (MT) to face charges of two counts Bail Jumping, Assault (Strangulation), and Tampering with Communications Device. 

On August 26th, Jordan Bennett (26) of Bethany pleaded guilty in Harrison County Associate Circuit Court to a charge of Endangering the Welfare of a Child. He was placed on two years’ probation by Judge Jay Hemenway. Defendant must complete eight hours of parenting classes.

On August 26th, Gentry County Prosecutor Jessica Jones filed charges against Natalie Fine (44) of King City alleging Assault. 

On August 27th, Daviess County Prosecutor Andrea Beth Gibson filed charges against Philip Loughman (33) of Lenexa (KS) alleging DWI, Speeding (102 mph), and Careless & Imprudent Driving. Bond was set at $10,000, cash only. 

On August 30th, the Missouri State Highway Patrol reported that a motorcycle operator from Winterset was killed on Route 46 and F east of Sheridan. The Patrol says that a group of four motorcycles was eastbound on Route 46 when a Bedford operator slowed to turn from 46 to F. The Winterset driver swerved to the left to avoid a collision but still struck the Bedford operator. The Winterset operator was thrown from his motorcycle. The Patrol then says another Bedford motorcycle operator struck the Winterset motorcycle and was injured, thrown from his bike, and taken to Maryville. The other two motorcycle operators were not injured. 

On August 30th, Nodaway County Prosecutor Tina Deiter filed charges against Jon Shell (55) of Maryville alleging Harassment Motivated by Discrimination (Felony) and Assault Motivated by Discrimination (Felony). Bond was set at $25,000, cash or corporate surety. Judge Robert Rice disqualified himself from the case and Judge Brett Hurst was assigned.

On August 31st, Gentry County Prosecutor Jessica Jones filed charges against Jagger Vestal (24) of Stanberry alleging Endangering the Welfare of a Child, Consumption of Alcoholic Beverage While Driving, and Driving While Revoked.

On August 31st, Nodaway County Prosecutor Tina Deiter filed charges against Joseph Wyckoff (30) of St. Joseph alleging Leaving the Scene (Felony, Physical Injury), and Careless & Imprudent Driving (Accident). An affidavit from the Nodaway County Sheriff’s Department alleges the defendant struck a pedestrian during the Graham Street Fair and then left. Bond was set at $5,000, cash or corporate surety. 

On August 31st, Nodaway County Prosecutor Tina Deiter filed charges against David Masters (41) of Maryville alleging DWI (Felony). Bond was set at $5,000, cash or corporate surety.

On August 31st, Nodaway County Prosecutor Tina Deiter filed charges against David Lynch (52) of Clarinda alleging DWI, Failure to Affix Tab on Plate, and Failure to Drive on Right Half of Roadway. 

On August 31st, the Missouri State Highway Patrol reported that around 1:20 pm, a 2013 Chevy Equinox struck a 2010 Chevy 1500 Pickup, sending it airborne. It then struck a sign. The driver of the pickup, a 28-year-old woman from Derby (KS), and a 72-year-old passenger from Marlin (TX) were injured and taken to Harrison County Hospital. The driver of the Equinox was not injured.

On September 1st, the Missouri State Highway Patrol reported that a 2022 Chevy Box Truck was westbound on 136 three miles west of Stanberry when it traveled off the north side of the roadway, overcorrected, began to skid, returned to the roadway, traveled off the south side, and overturned. The 36-year-old driver from Kansas City was injured and taken to Mosaic in St. Joseph.

Charges listed are merely allegations. Evidence in support of the charges must be presented before a court of competent jurisdiction whose duty it is to determine guilt or innocence. All defendants are presumed innocent until proven guilty.

Nodaway County Commission Minutes for August 25th, 2026

Convene:  Presiding Commissioner Bill Walker called the meeting of the Nodaway County Commission to order at 8:00 a.m. on August 25, 2026 at the Commissioner’s Office.  Attendance:  Present: Walker, Chris Burns and Scott Walk.  Also present: Melinda Patton, County Clerk.

BRO Bridges – Took a call from Madison Wood regarding the right-of-ways for both BRO-R074(001) and BRO-R074(002) bridges.

Public Comment – Citizens questioned if the Commission has gotten any answers back from the developer, they have not. Several reshared concerns over the dangerous road conditions Missouri Department of Transportation (MoDOT) has created.  A volunteer Advisory Committee for Planning and zoning is still being discussed.  The group asked for more information on White Cloud Township’s question for planning and zoning on the November ballot.  Concrete and rock concerns were brought up.  Livestock continues to be a shared concern.  Those present:  Scott Wilson, Susie Strauch, Rena Puckett, Tim Schafer, Wanda Goodspeed, Bruce Skoglund, Irene Alexander, Cindy Roach, Josh McKim and Kim Mildward, Nodaway County Economic Development (NCED), Bryce Howard, Amy Ziegler, Patrick Swinford, Nina Wiederholt, Kim Swyers, Donna Tompkins and Sheriff Austin Hann.

The Commission discussed having a public facing video(s) that could be viewed on a television in the lobby for county residents to view and would contain links for more information to view and host on the county website and/or NCED’s website.

BRO-R074(004) Bridge – Reviewed and approved Invoice #10 on BRO-074(004) Bridge # 0530012 in Grant Township.

State of Emergency – Drafted and signed a Township and County Culvert Permit letter for the 2026 disaster relief. 

Deputy Sheriff Supplemental Grant – Sheriff Austin Hann submitted the SFY2027 Deputy Sheriff Supplemental Salary Fund (DSSSF) Grant Award and Articles of Agreement document and budget for signature. This will provide approximately an additional $3,000 per deputy annually.  Document was reviewed, signed and returned to the MoSMART Board at Department of Public Safety.

LPA Basic Training – Reviewed an email from Madison Woodward, Transportation Planner with the Missouri Department of Transportation (MoDOT) regarding LPA Basic Training and ROW Negotiator Training. 

County Building and Property – Reviewed ABK Fire & Safety, LLC inspection report for the County Administration Building.

CART Rock – Steve Farnan, Washington Township Clerk, stopped in to discuss roads #1035, #1036 and #996 for construction.  Approved an application for construction for Road #173 in Hopkins Township.  Burns gave updates rock inventory for Martin Marietta quarries.

Jayden Goble Carries Pattonsburg to Consolation Title

     Jayden Goble carried the Pattonsburg team on her shoulders throughout the sweltering afternoon and fittingly enough, scored the game-winning run in the consolation game to secure hardware for the Panthers Saturday at the Albany Tournament. Addie Iddings, normally one of the favorite targets of Coach Bill Pottorff’s wrath, got some praise from him for a change. “Addie, I’m proud of you,” he said after the game. Iddings kept the team in all three of their games with her pitching, rarely walking batters and always throwing strikes regardless of how badly her fielders were struggling behind her. She pitched all three games in sweltering 90+ degree heat and held up until the end.

Goble got seven hits for the afternoon and swiped five bases. Kaitlyn Estes was right behind her, getting a home run on the small field and nearly getting one on the big field in the consolation game and taking out a car parked behind the fence in the process. Isabella Burger added a home run, and Rosalynn Cameron, related to Royals pitcher Noah Cameron, was a steady hitting presence.

Stanberry was forecast to be a contender in the GRC West this year, but Pattonsburg jumped on them early with Isabella Burger’s home run as the wind carried it out of reach and over the fence to make it 1-0. With one out in the second, Emsleigh McCrary was plunked. Carlie Pittsenbarger got a sacrifice bunt to move McCrary to second. Cheyanne Miller singled her home to make it 2-0.

But as the day got hotter, the errors began to mount, with Pattonsburg making nine on the day and somehow still had a chance to win at the end. Brooke Robinson reached second on an error and Jaicee McGinley advanced her to third. Ellie Dias grounded out to put Stanberry on the board.

Pattonsburg responded in the third with Estes hitting a carbon copy of Burger’s drive to make it 3-1.

But then the errors began to mount and Stanberry started coming back, using two Panther errors to cut their deficit to 3-2. Brooke Robinson singled in Harper Heyde to tie it up, an error let in a run to put Stanberry up 4-3, and McGinley hit a pop fly single over second baseman Emsleigh McCrary’s head to make it 5-3.

Jayden Goble, who had been out on her first two at-bats, got better as the day got hotter, starting with a double to left to tie the game at 5, with Carlie Pittsenbarger and Cheyenne Miller scoring. But Stanberry struck again with two outs as Harper Heyde tripled to left as Kynzee Adcock and Tasha Stoll scored to make it 7-5. Heyde came home on a passed ball to make it 8-5. At that point, all eight of Stanberry’s runs had come with two outs.

The eighth run came on a controversial call as Jayden Goble clearly tagged Heyde making an ill-advised dash to the plate on a play that everybody saw but the umpire.

The lower part of Pattonsburg’s order came through to give them a chance. Rosalynn Cameron caught hold of a pitch well outside of the strike zone and singled to left and Vanessa Weigand doubled her over to third. Emsleigh McCrary hit a seeing-eye single to right to score Cameron to make it 8-6 as Weigand went first to third. McCrary stole second and as the shortstop cut off the throw, Weigand took off for home and was safe as McCrary took third on the play. That made it 8-7. Cheyenne Miller’s pop fly short-hopped the center fielder as McCrary scored to make it 8-8. Addie Iddings grounded out to score Miller to put Pattonsburg up 9-8.

But Pattonsburg made two more errors in the final inning, and that proved to be too much. Left fielder Carly Pittsenbarger made a great play to cut down a runner at third, but Josi Moffat grounded out to score Jaicee McGinley to tie it and Olivia McQuinn singled home Ellie Dias to walk it off for Stanberry 10-9.

Against North Harrison, Jayden Goble singled to start the game and swiped second. The ball got away, and Goble circled the bases to put Pattonsburg up 1-0. Addie Iddings narrowly missed a home run and doubled to right. Shamrock catcher Ava Rinehart picked her off and got her in a rundown. There was a massive collision between Iddings and Shamrock second baseman Shayla Vandiver, who held on to the tag for the out. Kaitlyn Estes doubled into the left field corner and Rosalynn Cameron got a bad-hop single to score her and make it 2-0.

Lani Briggs reached on an error and Addison Milligan doubled to right, putting Briggs on third. Jaxcynn Hansel singled to center to score them and tie it at 2-2 after one.

The score was stuck there until the fourth inning, when a pair of Shamrock errors scored Carly Pittsenbarger to make it 3-2. Jayden Goble flied out to score Cheyenne Miller to make it 4-2. Addie Iddings walked and Gracelyn Youtsey (running for Iddings) took second on a wild pitch. Isabella Burger singled her over to third and advanced to second on defensive indifference. Kaitlyn Estes walked. Rosalynn Cameron beat out an infield hit to score Youtsey to make it 5-2. Vanessa Weigand reached on an error to score Burger to make it 6-2.

In the Shamrock fourth, Kathryn Parkhurst walked. Shayla Vandiver struck out and Becca Welling forced Parkhurst at second. Singles by Lani Briggs and Addison Milligan plated Welling to cut it to 6-3.

Carlie Pittsenbarger singled to right to start the Panther fifth, and the ball got away to put her on second. Cheyanne Miller put down a perfect sacrifice bunt to move her to third. Jayden Goble beat out an infield hit as Pittsenbarger scored to make it 7-3. Goble stole second, and the ball got away to put her on third. Addie Iddings grounded out to score her and make it 8-3. Isabella Burger beat out an infield hit. Singles by Kaitlyn Estes and Roslynn Cameron scored her to make it 9-3.

North Harrison fought back after Hali Smith beat out an infield single. Jaxcynn Hansel grounded to second; Pattonsburg tried to go for the force, but Smith beat it out. Raegan Hogan singled to load the bases. Kathryn Parkhurst grounded out to score Smith. Shayla Vandiver flied out to score Hansel to make it 9-5. But Becca Welling flied out, and time was called to advance Pattonsburg to the consolation finals.

Against North Andrew, Pattonsburg struck first as Jayden Goble singled to left. She stole second and third, carrying the team on her shoulders even more as it got hotter and hotter. Kaitlyn Estes doubled her home to make it 1-0.

North Andrew answered in the third when Olivia Diggs singled. Presleigh Ford singled to center; they tried to cut down Diggs going first to third, but she was safe as Ford took second. Diggs scored on a passed ball as Ford took third. Delaney Sybert grounded out as Presleigh Ford scored to put North Andrew in front 2-1.

In the Panther third, Isabella Burger walked with one out. Emsleigh McCrary (running for Burger) took second on a passed ball. Kaitlyn Estes doubled her home to tie it at 2-2. Rosalynn Cameron bunted and reached on an error as Estes scored to put Pattonsburg up 3-2.

In the Cardinal fourth, Panther left fielder Carlie Pittsenbarger made her second outstanding defensive play when she forced out a runner at second base to kill a rally.

Delaney Sybert, Hadley Anderson, and Hayden Manley all singled to tie it at 3-3. Zoey Redmond singled to left and the ball got away as Hayden Manley and Hadley Anderson scored to put North Andrew up 5-3.

Kaitlyn Estes got her third double of the day with one out in the Pattonsburg fifth. She took third on a passed ball. Rosalynn Cameron walked and took second on defensive indifference. Vanessa Weigand doubled to tie the game up at 5-5.

Time had expired, so the International Tiebreaker rule was in effect, meaning that each team starts the inning with a runner on second. In North Andrew’s half of the sixth, Olivia Diggs got a sacrifice bunt to move the ghost runner, Aurora Miller, to third. Bradyn Wilson grounded out to score Miller and put North Andrew in front 6-5.

Emsleigh McCrary advanced to third on a passed ball in Pattonsburg’s half. Cheyanne Miller grounded out, but McCrary held up and no run scored. Jayden Goble singled to left; there was a heartstopping moment as she slipped and fell rounding first, but she got back safely as Emsleigh McCrary scored to make it 6-6. Goble stole second and the ball got away, putting her on third. Addie Iddings was hit by a pitch. Isabella Burger flied out to score Goble to win the game 7-6. 

Kameron Mars, Hawks Show Resilience, Salvage Final Game at Albany

Against North Harrison, the Hawks dug themselves into an 11-3 hole. But this time, they fought their way back to get a 15-11 win to salvage the final game of the tournament.

The first inning belonged to the Shamrocks as Burke suddenly started fighting the strike zone and walked four batters in the inning. Jaxcynn Hansel scored on a wild pitch to put North Harrison up 1-0. Raegan Hogan doubled to score Addison Milligan and Ava Rinehart to make it 3-0. Hali Smith and Hogan scored on wild pitches to make it 5-0. Becca Welling beat out an infield hit to score Shayla Vandiver to make it 6-0. It would have been worse had not Hawk center fielder Hailey McClure came flying out of nowhere to snatch Lani Briggs’ pop fly behind the shortstop position and second base for the final out.

Tenley Griffith walked to start the Hawk first and took second and third on wild pitches. Kameron Mars showed her value to her new team by putting pressure on the defense as she flew down the line after a ground ball and forced an error, scoring Griffith. She later came around to score on a wild pitch to make it 6-2.

In the Shamrock second, Ava Rinehart nearly had a home run, but got a ground-rule double after the ball short-hopped the fence. She later scored on a dropped fly ball to put North Harrison up 7-2.

Emmery Smith walked and took second on a wild pitch. Nova Smith singled her home to cut the Hawk deficit to 7-3.

North Harrison built up a seemingly insurmountable lead in the third, scoring four runs with two outs. Shayla Vandiver walked. Becca Welling and Lani Briggs advanced her to third with groundouts. Jaxcynn Hansel walked. At that point, Tenley Griffith replaced Alli Burke on the mound. Throughout the first three games, Coach Lisle was moving a lot of people around, trying to find something that worked. At first, it looked like more of the same as Hansel stole second and Addison Milligan singled down the right field line to score two to make it 9-3. Ava Rinehart shot a double over Griffith’s outstretched glove to score Milligan and came home on Hali Smith’s single to make it 11-3.

But then Griffith suddenly settled down and showed off the form that made her successful last year, shutting down the potent Shamrock lineup the rest of the way. Meanwhile, the Hawks began their comeback bid after Alli Burke shot a line drive off shortstop Ava Rinehart’s glove into left field for a base hit. Avery Chadwick shot a single just past third to put runners on first and second. They took second and third on a wild pitch. Parker Crabtree grounded to pitcher Hali Smith, who cut down Burke trying to score for the first out as Chadwick took third and Crabtree first. Kayleece Puls walked to load the bases. Emmery Smith walked to force in a run. Hailey McClure singled to center to score Parker Crabtree and Kayleece Puls to make it 11-6. Tenley Griffith singled to score Emmery Smith and Hailey McClure to make it 11-8. Tenley went from first to third on a wild pitch and scored on Kameron Mars’ shot off the second baseman’s glove to make it 11-9.

Aided by a diving grab by Chadwick behind the plate, Gilman kept the Shamrocks off the board in the fourth.

Chadwick reached third on an error and Parker Crabtree walked. Kayleece Puls hit a pop fly that looked like trouble, but Hali Smith, playing in center field, made a running grab behind short. Chadwick tagged up and scored on the play to make it 11-10. An error and a walk loaded the bases, and Tenley Griffith walked to force in Parker Crabtree to tie it up at 11. Kameron Mars singled to break the tie and score Puls to make it 12-11. Alli Burke nearly had a home run, but singled off the wall to score Emmery Smith and Nova Smith. Tenley Griffith scored on a wild pitch to make it 15-11.
