Rosalynn Cameron gave Pattonsburg a big lift, getting four hits as the Panthers used a big sixth inning to drop North Andrew 9-6 Thursday. The Panthers have three conference losses in the GRC West and are out of the race, but after winning two of their last three, they have plenty to play for. At 4-7, they can fight to get back to .500. They can still play spoiler in the conference with games against conference leaders Stanberry and Worth County coming up. They can always fight to improve their district seeding as well. With only one senior graduating, they can lay quite a big of groundwork for the future.
North Andrew has been a tough luck squad all year despite bringing most of their squad back from last year. They brought in their best pitcher, Teigan Miller, after falling behind against Pattonsburg. Miller was brilliant, striking out ten Pattonsburg batters and her squad got behind her and fought back to take the lead. But then the dangerous Pattonsburg bats came alive in the sixth inning to drop the Cardinals.
For Pattonsburg, besides Cameron, Jayden Goble had two hits, including a double. Addie Iddings, Isabella Burger, Kaitlyn Estes, Emsleigh McCrary, and Kara Bernardino all had hits. Cameron stole two bases and Goble one.
Addie Iddings walked four batters, but struck out six and the defense showed improvement behind her, only committing two errors after Pattonsburg had committed nine in the North Harrison loss and around five a game thereafter. Iddings also got some key strikeouts when she needed them.
In the Panther first, Jayden Goble reached on an error and stole second. Isabella Burger singled her home to make it 1-0.
North Andrew wasted a double by Teigan Miller with one out in the first. Presleigh Ford walked, but Emma Curran flied out to Cameron in center and Iddings struck out Lilly Richardson to get out of the inning.
Another error jump started a Panther rally in the second as Vanessa Weigand reached to lead off. Kara Bernardino walked and Rosalynn Cameron struck her first blow, doubling home Weigand and putting Bernardino on third. Cheyenne Miller grounded out to score Bernardino and put Cameron on third, making it 3-0. Jayden Goble doubled to left as Cameron scored to make it 4-0.
Catcher Isabelle Burger and shortstop Jayden Goble made catches in the field to strand a Cardinal runner at first.
With one out, Teigan Miller singled to right and Presleigh Ford reached on an error to put runners on first and second. Emma Curran singled Miller home to make it 4-1. But shortstop Jayden Goble alertly got a force play at third for the second out and Iddings got a key strikeout, freezing Bradynn Wilson for the third out.
Pattonsburg should have gotten out of the fourth inning, but two walks and an error loaded the bases, and the floodgates opened for North Andrew with two outs. Singles by Presleigh Ford and Emma Curran put North Andrew in front 5-4 before Jayden Goble caught Lilly Richardson's pop fly for the third out.
The Cards could not add to their lead in the fifth as Jayden Goble at short and Cheyenne Miller at second made catches for Pattonsburg.
Kara Bernardino singled to start off the Panther sixth and Rosalynn Cameron followed with her third hit. Cheyenne Miller struck out, but Jayden Goble got a scratch hit to load the bases. Addie Iddings singled and Bernardino scored to tie it at 5-5 as the bases remained loaded. Isabella Burger hit a two strike pitch for a grounder to second. Presleigh Ford tried to go to catcher Hilde Wheeler, but Rosalynn Cameron showed her speed, beating out the throw to score and make it 6-5 as the bases remained loaded. Kaitlyn Estes hit a grounder to Briley Rainez at third. She tried to go home for a force, but Jayden Goble beat the throw and scored and the bases remained loaded. Emsleigh McCrary flied out to right, and Addie Iddings tagged up and scored on the play, with Claire Christensen (running for Burger) and Kaitlyn Estes advancing as well. That made it 8-5 with runners on second and third with two outs. Christensen scored on a passed ball to make it 9-5.
But North Andrew doesn't give up easily; they nearly erased big deficits against Worth County and North Harrison earlier. Sure enough, Cambrielle Steeby walked. Briley Rainez popped out to Kaitlyn Estes for the first out, but walks usually lead to runs. Sure enough, Teigan Miller caught hold of a two strike pitch and doubled to left, putting Steeby on third with one out. Presleigh Ford beat out an infield hit as Steeby scored to make it 9-6 and Miller took third. But Rosalynn Cameron had carried Pattonsburg with her bat and legs earlier; this time, she did it with her glove as she caught Emma Curran's fly ball and Miller held at third. Miller was then called out for leaving the base too soon to get Pattonsburg out of the inning still up three.
But Teigan Miller had a short memory and she struck out Cheyenne Miller and Jayden Goble after Cameron had singled for her fourth hit and stole second and took third on a passed ball with one out. Lilly Richardson singled to center to lead off the seventh. But once again, Iddings came up with two strikeouts when she had to, both called. Haidyn Andersen flied out to Cameron to end the game.
