She was born February 6, 1927 on the family farm east of Redding, Iowa in Ringgold County. She was the youngest of six children born to Zula Alma (Denney) Saville and James Bernard Saville.
Ruth was christened in 1936 at Middle Fork Church. She was a member of Middle Fork United Methodist Church and attended services regularly for 92 years. Many can remember her as their Sunday school teacher. She was also the church historian for many years.
She enjoyed researching the genealogy of her family, ceramics, crocheting, quilting and collecting lady head vases. Her grandchildren and great grandchildren were a special joy to her. She loved showing their latest pictures.
During her life, she worked as a secretary for Equitable Insurance Company in Des Moines, Iowa, a housekeeper, she sewed caps at the cap factories in Grant City, Missouri and Mount Ayr, Iowa. She worked many years as a nurse’s aide at Clearview Nursing Home, at Aunt Jennies Attic, and she retired from the Senior Center at the age of 80.
Ruth is survived by her daughter Kay Elaine (Richard) Cobb of Kankakee, Illinois; 3 grandchildren Kenneth Dale (Ann) Cobb, Kelli Michelle Shamhart, Rebecca Lynn (James) Woodward; 4 great grandchildren Taylor Shamhart, Noah Cobb, Clayton Woodward, Curtis Woodward; 1 sister-in-law Dolores Saville; 1 cousin Lawrence Jefferson; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents Zula Alma (Denney) Saville and James Bernard Saville; sisters Esther Velma Parker, Janice Bernadene Platt, Pearl Lavene Parker; brothers Clyde Elbert Saville and Lee Elvin Saville; brothers-in-law Jeremiah Franklin Parker, Denzel Grant Platt, Oliver Mark Parker; and sister-in-law May Ellen (Garrard) Saville.
Memorials are to the Middle Fork United Methodist Church, Mount Ayr Public Library, Ringgold County Public Health, and Heritage Park Apartments.
