Brandon Allee Hired as Pupil Transportation Employee by School

The Worth County School Board voted to hire Brandon Allee as a Pupil Transportation Employee contingent on an approved background check. The vote was unanimous.

The Food Service Program was rated as average. Strengths listed included the staff, and the active engagement of the district wellness committee. Concerns listed including the fact that $17,496 in funds were used to support the program. Also cited were low participation of high school students in the breakfast program, a fire suppression hood was needed for the ranges, a new serving line was needed, and new staff needing additional food service specific training.

Recommendations include continuing to work on economizing, such as food costs, decreasing food waste, and decreasing non-food expenses when possible. Other recommendations include continuing to implement “Grab and Go” in the high school; participation has doubled since implementation; however, numbers are still low. Other recommendations included seeking training opportunities for the staff and continuing to seek out options for installing a fire suppression hood.

The Transportation program was rated as “Excellent.” Strengths included the fact that all school bus drivers have the School Bus endorsement and went through 8 hours of training in Maryville. A new bus was added to the fleet in 2017-2018.  Concerns listed included the age and condition of the school bus fleet and the school vehicles, as well as the need for more drivers.

Recommendations include continuing to update school vehicles when financially feasible, continuing to replace buses as feasible, and recruiting bus drivers year-round.

Elementary Principal Chuck Borey reported that elementary students had brought in over 600 items for the FCCLA Food Drive for the Food Pantry. Mr. Borey had to guess what was in the Mystery Box. Some of the items were slime, hot dog in jello, mouse, and mashed potatoes.

On November 26th, Kindergarten through 3rd graders got to attend the annual Garage Sale, where they purchased items at the sale with tickets they earned throughout the month for reading. 4th through 6th graders played dodge ball for their reading incentive.

The class with the highest percentage of attendance in November was the 1st graders. They spun the reward wheel and earned movie time. Tiger Token of the month went to the 5th grade.

Mrs. Pottorff has put up a bulletin board for everyone to see the Tiger Paws that students earned for good behavior. At the end of each quarter, the slips are taken down and sent home with the student.
An Elementary Concert was held Monday, December 16th in the High School Gym.

On December 17th, 16 students got to shop with a cop at participating Worth County businesses. Those who were chosen include – Addison Cadle & Troop Larison (Kindergarten), Paul Hoff and Jace Mullock (First Grade), Zaiden Chipps and Paige Hubbard (Second Grade), Mason Hiatt and Gracie Thurman (Third Grade), Dale Deardorff and Breanna Ray (Fourth Grade), Caleb New and Sumer Riley (Fifth Grade), and Chloe Gladstone and Marissa Schmitz (Sixth Grade).

On December 20th, Santa came and visited Kindergarten through 3rd Graders starting at 8:30. Elementary Class Christmas Parties took place throughout the day, and grade cards went home with students.

Brock Healy was named to participate in the Elks Hoop Shoot Contest in Cameron.

High School Principal Jon Adwell released the honor rolls for the high school students for the First Quarter. On the High Honor Roll were Seniors Regan Allee, Cassie Boner, Jarrett Hargrave, Navada Hoff, Hayden Holmes, Kaylee McElvain, Jenna Miller, Zoey Morin, Kristin New, and Merrideth Spiers; Juniors Wyatt Abplanalp, Megan Cassavaugh, Keelin Engel, Braidy Hunt, Danyelle Jackson, and Tate Welch; Sophomores Aydan Gladstone, Aivry Griffin, Misty Helt, and Justina Wimer; Freshmen Taylor Sanders and Drew Welch; 8th Graders Autumn Cousatte, Ethan Frese, Tyler New, Tuker Riley, Becca Smith, Kara-Jean Staton, and Lincoln Wake; and 7th Graders Evan Baker, Willie Baker, Abbi Brown, and Bridgette Hightshoe.

On the Regular Honor Roll were Seniors Jaxon Anderson, Bobby Baker, Sarah Bever, Daniel Craven, Anna Gladstone, and Hanna McElvain; Juniors Nate Adwell, Andrew Alarcon, Morgan Beagle, Hannah Bever, Addison Blankenship, EmiLee Brown, Jill Hardy, Brett Hightshoe, Lane Kemery, Allison Larison, Anna Spainhower, and Maddie Taute; Sophomores Grant Cameron, Cooper Chapman, Cassie Johnson, Molly Miller, Lincoln Moore, Alex Rinehart, Jackson Runde, and Lucas Wake; Freshmen Alison Anderson, Ali Brown, Levi Cassavaugh, Lanie Cousatte, John Galanakis, Dillan Gavigan, Coner Gladstone, Braxton Hightshoe, Jase Latham, Claire McElvain, and Tanner Ridge; 8th Graders Mitzie Gillespie, Jayden Gust, Brooke Lininger, Brooklyn Richardson, and Kynah Steele; and 7th graders Karson Briner, Carter Chapman, Eva Engel, Cannon Fletcher, and Mackenzie Walter.

The Greenhouse students went to Red Oak Greenhouse as a field trip.

The FBLA has 21 students preparing for contests. Five teams will travel to Missouri Western, where they will present their presentations or give a speech. The final round of District Contest will be held at Northwest on February 6th. One team, the E-Business team, has qualified automatically for state.
The FFA adopted a family for Christmas.

Tate Welch earned the Jack Young, Mildred Young, Noble Young, and Myra Young Scholarship that is enrolled in a dual credit course through North Central Missouri College.

On Friday, the junior high and high school students had a fun day, including movie rooms, a volleyball tournament, video games, board games and cards, a Class Olympics, and a talent show/lip sync battle.

Athletic Director Chris Healy reported that Braymer will leave the GRC at the start of the 2020-2021 season for all sports. This will leave seven schools in the GRC West. The GRC is looking at the possibility of reaching out to new schools. Several new schools have joined the eight man ranks for the 2020-2021 school year, raising the number to at least 35 schools.

Merrideth Spiers won the Gerald Fuchs Band Scholarship, which is awarded to one graduating senior from the Northwest District.
