Worth County Junior High Teams Beat Out Gallatin at Albany

The Worth County Junior High track teams have not skipped a beat since last year despite losing a lot of horses; they are continuing to place well in track meets this year. Last Monday at Albany, the Tigers won both the boys and girls meets, edging out Gallatin both times. The girls won with a total of 128 points, 17 points ahead of Gallatin with 111.33. The boys was closer with Worth County winning with 99 points and Gallatin coming in with 95.

Sydney Thummel won the 100 Meter Dash and got her best time of the year, getting 13.88 to win. She was half a second ahead of her nearest rival. Alysa Lyle was third with a time of 14.47. In the other speed event, Kaitlyn Davidson was 2nd with a time of 29.91. That was .95 of a second off the winning pace set by Sarah Lin of Gallatin. Tess Andrews was 13th with a time of 34.45.

In a very close race, Sydney Thummel got one of her best times of the year in the 400, losing by only two hundredths of a second to Lin. She got a time of 1:05.88, which would have placed her in many events this year. Dylanie Abplanalp was 13th with a time of 1:23.20.

Thummel got her second win of the afternoon in the 75 Meter Hurdles. Feeling she had her step technique down pat, she got her best time of the year in the event with a 13.45, three hundreths of a second ahead of Kiana Bennett in a close race. Alysa Lyle also got her best time of the year as she got a time of 14.05, good for third place.

The 4x100 Relay Team of Crystal Davis, Rikky Hunt, Kenna LaFollette, and Malori Moellenberndt was a close second, falling only to South Harrison. They finished with a time of 59.68, .13 of a second off the winning pace. They showed a lot of promise as all but one of them are 7th graders and will be a favorite to win in coming years.

The 4x400 team of Crystal Davis, Rikky Hunt, Jacklyn Brooks, and Malori Moellenberndt finished 4th with a time of 5:12.89. That was 32.09 seconds behind the pace set by Gallatin.

The Tigers placed two in the High Jump as Alysa Lyle won with a jump of 4'8". She has jumped as high as 5 feet this year, which would win most of the varsity level high jump events this year. She did not jump for height at Albany as she had it won when she cleared 4'8". Jacklyn Brooks was 7th with a jump of 4 feet.

Worth County was 1-3 in the pole vault, continuing a long tradition of pole vaulters on the girls side. Alysa Lyle matched her career high with a varsity-level 7 foot vault. That was one foot ahead of the second place finisher. Tess Andrews was 3rd with a vault of 5'6".

The Tigers placed two in the girls long jump. Jacklyn Brooks was 7th with a jump of 12'1 1/2". That was one of her best jumps of the year. Crystal Davis was 8th with a jump of 11'11". Both of them are 7th graders and figure to move up the standings a lot next year.

Sydney Thummel picked up her third win of the afternoon as she won the triple jump with a jump of 30'3 1/2". That was her best jump of the year and beat out Kailey Salmon of Gallatin by 7 1/2".

Kaitlyn Davidson has been dominant in the Shot Put the last two years and showed her form at Albany as she won the event with a throw of 34'9". That was one of her best throws of the year and 3'8 1/2" ahead of Haley Craig of North Harrison. Taylor Causey was 7th with a throw of 28'3 1/2".

Kaitlyn Davidson also dominated the discus throw, winning with a throw of 96'1/2". That was almost 27 feet ahead of Craig. It was her best throw of the year and would have been good enough to win a lot of varsity events. Next year, Kaitlyn Davidson and Rebecca Moore figure to pack a formidable punch in the Discus. Taylor Causey was 5th with a throw of 63'11".

On the boys side, Chris Alarcon finished just out of the money as he got 9th in the 100 with a time of 14.25. Chris Allen finished with a time of 16.88. In the other speed event, Brevyn Ross was 2nd in the 200 with a time of 27.70, one of his better times of the year. That was .53 of a second off the pace set by Blake Emig of North Harrison.

Cole Parman was second in the 400 with his best time of the year. He finished with a time of 1:01.84, .75 of a second behind Brandon Bradley of Gallatin. Jacob Hardy finished with a time of 1:21.05.

Brevyn Ross easily won the 800, getting a time of 2:32.48. That was almost 12 seconds ahead of Damion Sturdevant of North Harrison. Ben Badell was 5th with a time of 2:49.09.

Getting 4th in the 100 Hurdles was Cole Parman. He finished with a time of 17.46, his best time of the year and 1.11 off the pace set by Eli Rae of Maysville. Brevyn Ross was 7th with a time of 18.36.

The 4x100 Relay Team finished 7th with a time of 1:01.01. That was 7.04 seconds off the pace set by Gallatin. The 4x200 team fared better, getting 4th with a time of 2:00.54. That was one of their better times of the year and was 4.39 seconds off the pace set by Albany. The 4x400 was 3rd with a time of 4:43.54, 21.16 seconds behind Stanberry.

Worth County placed two in the Pole Vault. Jared Simmons, despite his little size, finished 3rd with a vault of 7 feet. Ben Badell was 4th, also with a vault of 7 feet.

The Tigers placed two in the Long Jump. Cole Parman was 2nd with a jump of 16 feet, one of his better jumps of the year. Brevyn Ross was right behind him, getting a jump of 15'7 3/4". That was good enough for 4th place.

Two more placed in the other jumping event. Cole Parman had his best jump of the year in the Triple Jump with a 33'9" and narrowly lost out to Noah Wilmes, who jumped 34'1 1/2". Chris Alarcon was 8th with a jump of 29'8".

Josh Warner had one of his best throws of the year and finished third with a throw of 33'11". Truman Moore was 6th with a throw of 30'3 1/2". In the other throwing event, Josh Warner was 4th in the Discus with a throw of 93'. Austin Carlson was 7th with a throw of 87'11 1/2".
