Junior High Tiger Boys Win Home Meet; Girls Rise to Third

Worth County’s junior high boys won their home meet Thursday while the girls rose up to third place.

For the boys, Worth County edged out Maysville with 77 points to 69 for Maysville. NEN had 58, Platte Valley 40, Stanberry 30, Rock Port 27, Albany 26, South Harrison 25, St. Gregory’s 24, East Atchison 22, South Holt 17, King City 12, North Nodaway 11, Nodaway Valley 10, Pattonsburg 9, St. Joseph Christian 4, and North Harrison 4.

In a very tight race in the 100, nine different runners finished within .67 of a second of first place. Jordan Dannar was sixth with a time of 12.68. Another tight race developed in the 200 between Grady Gockel (Platte Valley), Wyatt Scadden (NEN), and Dannar. Gockel won with a time of 25.74, followed by Wyatt Scadden with 25.92 and Jordan Dannar with 26.03. The three ran another tight race in the 400 with Gockel winning with a time of 57.13, followed by Roberts with 57.84 and Dannar with 58.55.

After being beat out early in the year in the 100 Hurdles, Brock Healy showed big improvement, winning it with a time of 16.07 and edging out Blaise Krogen (Rock Port) with 16.13. There were four runners who finished within .60 of a second on the winning time.

The 4x100 team won with a time of 52.20, over two seconds ahead of the South Harrison squad. The 4x200 was third with a time of 1:51.70 and the 4x400 was third with a time of 4:12.97.

Brock Healy, who had been getting edged out in the Pole Vault earlier in the year, won it with a height of 2.45 meters. Brock Healy was third in the Triple Jump with a jump of 10.59 meters. Silas Brown  tried it out and placed in it with a fourth place jump of 10.38. Brock Healy was second in the Discus with a throw of 35.53 meters, while Owyn Wuillay was fourth with a throw of 32.81 meters.

The girls, despite the loss of Brooklyn Smith, decided they were not ready to give up on their season and have shown continuous improvement since then, rising to where they were before she went down. Rock Port had 63.33 points, Stanberry 61.3, Worth County 54.33, South Harrison 47, Albany 40, NEN 40, St. Gregory’s 33, St. Joseph Christian 32, King City 23, Maysville 16, South Holt 16, Union Star 11, North Nodaway 10, East Atchison 10, Nodaway Valley 7, and Platte Valley 1.

Brianna Riley was second in the 100 with a time of 13.81. She was fourth in the 200 with a time of 29.32. Kaydence Downing was fourth in the 400 with a time of 1:09. Riley won the 100 Hurdles with a time of 17.69.

The 4x100 was sixth with a time of 1:00.61. The 4x400 was fifth with a time of 5:04.60.

Brecklyn Rush was third in the High Jump with a height of 1:35 meters. Hadley Rush tied for fourth in the Pole Vault with a height of 1.45 meters. Renae Gladstone tied for sixth with a height of 1.45 meters. Brianna Riley was fourth in the Long Jump with a jump of 4.22 meters. Kennedy Murphy was fourth in the Triple Jump with a jump of 8.91 meters. Jane Hawk was third in the Shot Put with a throw of 9.71 meters. Hawk was fifth in the Discus with a throw of 24.90 meters.
