On Wednesday, Noah Cameron made his major league debut for the Royals after regular starter Cole Ragans was scratched from the starting lineup (groin). He is the son of Pattonsburg grad Tracy Cameron, who graduated from Pattonsburg in 1978. Noah Cameron went to St. Joseph Central before pitching at the University of Central Arkansas. He missed the 2021 season (Tommy John surgery), but made his minor league debut in 2022, progressing up through Omaha by last year.
Cameron throws a 92 mile per hour fastball, an 80 mile per hour changeup, an upper 70's curveball, and an upper-80's cutter. He took a no-hitter into the seventh inning in the Royals' 3-0 win at a hitter-friendly park. He had several outstanding defensive plays behind him including Hunter Renfroe robbing Yandy Diaz of a home run, a 5-4-3 double play in the second that got him out of a first and second jam, and an outstanding play by shortstop Bobby Witt Jr. At one point, he only had 56 pitches through five innings.
He finally tired in the seventh, and the Rays had traffic on the bases the rest of the way, but Lucas Erceg, John Schreiber, and Carlos Estevez came on in relief to secure the save.
