Worth County held its annual music concert Wednesday, with the elementary, junior high, and high school all performing.
The theme for the elementary was travel and where you could go. The Pre-K sang "Little Red Car" and "I Have a Car." The Kindergarten sang "Car-Car Song" by Woody Guthrie and "Chipmunk at the Gas Pump." The older kids sang popular tunes with the first grade singing "Surfing USA" by the Beach Boys and "Here Comes the Sun" by the Beatles. The second grade sang "Hit the Road, Jack" by Ray Charles and "On the Road Again" by Willie Nelson." The third grade sang "Route 66" by Chuck Berry and "Drift Away" by Dobie Gray and Uncle Kracker. The fourth grade sang "Eye of the Tiger" by Survivor and "Life is a Highway" by Rascal Flats. The fifth grade sang "Don't Stop Believing" by Journey and "Country Roads" by John Denver. The sixth grade sang "I Still Haven't Found What I'm Looking For" by U2 and "A Thousand Miles" by Vanessa Carlton.
The fifth grade band performed "Hard Rock Blues" by John Higgins and a rock medley starting with "We Will Rock You." The sixth grade band performed "Android Attack," "Any Way You Want It," and the Tiger Fight Song.
For the fifth grade, medals went to Coy Pickering, who learned "Tequila" on his own, Desmond Dannar, and Daden Findley.
Several sixth graders were recognized for performing well in concern. They were Gabbey Maudlin (Snare), Kinley Fletchall (Sax), Lexi Snead (Flute) and Jace Mullock (French Horn) along with Mitchell Baca and Kaeslyn Briner. Getting awards for leadership and musicianship were Lexi Snead, Jace Mullock, and Gabbey Maudlin.
The seventh graders played a theme from "Jurassic Park," "Sahara Adventure" by Victor Lopez, and the theme from "Pirates of the Caribbean." Every group that went to contest got a 1 rating, the highest. They were Silas Brown and Jarrett Gilland (drum duet), Miles Saville (trumpet), Jane Hawk and Kaitlynn Moyer (Alto/Sax), and Jane Hawk (alto solo). Leadership and musicianship awards went to Jane Hawk (woodwind), Brooklyn Smith (brass), and Silas Brown (percussion).
The sing team consisted of Evalyn Gilland, Emsley Spainhower, Unique Brown, Krista Monticue, and Arianna Galanakis. They formed a quintet for contest and got a silver medal.
The eighth graders and the high school performed together. They played "Master of Puppets," an arrangement from Metallica to start off with. They then performed "Fragile," a piece by Randall Standridge about mental health struggles, the highs and lows of dealing with mental illness, and the lingering fear that it might come back again someday. They finished with "Dragonstone" by Gavin Lendt.
There were 12 students who performed in the GRC West band concert, which was hosted by Worth County this year. They were Unique Brown, Evalyn Gilland, Addison Gray, Arianna Galanakis, Braelyn Fletchall, Emsley Spainhower, Rucker Fletchall, Lucas Frisch, Conner Pointer, Owyn Wuillay, Andrew Griffin, and Liam Hayden.
Eighth graders who got a 1 rating in contest were Brock Healy, Tucker Fletchall, Jordan Dannar, and Owyn Wuillay.
For the high school, Lucas Frisch, Sarah Fletchall, Liam Hayden, Emsley Spainhower, and Reyen Hansen got silver medals in contest. The large ensemble contest involves a sight reading exercise in which the band gets a piece they have never performed before, take only six minutes to talk their way through it without practicing it, and then perform it before judges. The band got a 1 rating for that.
Getting letters were Unique Brown, Brynn Chapman, Braelyn Fletchall, Laura Hansen, Liam Hayden, Lola Morin, Kambree Briner, Sarah Fletchall, Arianna Galanakis, Evelyn Gilland, Addison Gray, Reyen Hansen, Alivia Moyer, Hayden Sanders, Emsley Spainhower, Kristen Tracy, Brayden Combs, Katie Fletchall, Lucas Frisch, Andrew Griffin, Conner Pointer, Anissa Russell, and Emma Spencer.
Three seniors were recognized. They were Eliza Corey, Anissa Russell, and Emma Spencer.
