Senate Bill 63, passed by both the Missouri House and Senate, has gone to Governor Mike Kehoe’s desk for his consideration. It will allow homeschoolers to participate in MSHSAA sanctioned athletic events or activities. In the Senate, the vote was 34-0. Senator Rusty Black voted in favor of the bill. In the House, the vote was 94-44. State Representative Mazzie Christensen voted for the bill. State Representative Jeff Farnan voted against it.
The requirement of parents to provide at least 1,000 hours of instruction, at least 600 hours of which shall be in reading, language arts, meth, social studies, science, or academic courses, is unchanged. This section applies to children who are between the ages of 7 and 16.
In a press release, the MSHSAA issued a press release saying they are working with the Missouri School Boards Association to help implement the law.
