Worth County's girls fended off a surprisingly strong challenge from DeKalb in Stanberry last Tuesday, while the boys ran away with the meet title in the absence of Mound City. On the girls side, Worth County had 128, DeKalb 107, Stanberry 89, Platte Valley 87, Braymer 45, Albany 40, North/West Nodaway 31.5, Union Star 18, North Andrew 14, King City 14, Maryville JV 11, and Mercer 0.5.
On the boys side, Worth County had 142.5 points. Stanberry had 96, Pattonsburg 66, North/West Nodaway 58.5, Albany 52, Braymer 42, King City 36, DeKalb 27, Platte Valley 19, North Andrew 16.33, Maryville JV 11, Union Star 8.66, and Mercer 7.
For the girls, Kristin New was third in the 800 with a time of 2:44.8. The Tigers were 1-2 in the 100 Hurdles as Anna Gladstone won with a time of 16.4 and Aivry Griffin pushed her and got her best result of the year, getting second with a time of 17.9. The girls placed two in the 300 Hurdles as Anna Gladstone won by over eight seconds in the event with a time of 49.1. Jill Hardy was third with a time of 57.6.
The 4x100 team of Liz Lyle, Regan Allee, Keelin Engel, and Jessi Badell was third with a time of 56.9. The 4x200 team of Grace McElvain, Navada Hoff, Aivry Griffin, and Anna Spainhower was third with a time of 2:04.4. The 4x400 team of Liz Lyle, Braidy Hunt, Regan Allee, and Kristin New was fourth with a time of 4:41. The 4x800 team of Braidy Hunt, Kristin New, Megan Cassavaugh, and Jill Hardy was third with a time of 11:22.2.
The Tigers were 2-3 in the High Jump as Anna Gladstone was second with a height of 5 feet, while Liz Lyle was third with a jump of 4'10". Regan Allee matched a personal best in the Pole Vault with a height of 9'6" as the Tigers were 1-2 in that event. Keelin Engel was second with a height of 9 feet. Anna Gladstone was second in the Long Jump with a jump of 15'11 1/2", while Liz Lyle was fifth with a jump of 14'4". Jill Hardy was sixth in the Triple Jump with a jump of 28'6 1/4".
The Tigers placed two in the Shot Put as Merrideth Spiers was second with a throw of 35'2". Kennedy Galanakis was sixth with a throw of 28'2". Merrideth Spiers won the Discus with a throw of 120 feet, almost 25 feet better than her nearest competitor. Kennedy Galanakis was fourth with a throw of 93'5".
For the boys, Andrew Alarcon won the 100 with a time of 11.5. Jaxon Anderson was fourth with a time of 11.7. Four different athletes had a chance, with Cameron Jones (Pattonsburg) second with a time of 11.6 and Darrin McElfresh (DeKalb) third with a time of 11.7. Bryant McCord was neck and neck with Cameron Jones (Pattonsburg) and was second with a time of 23.8. Bryant McCord won the 110 Hurdles with a time of 15.6, two seconds ahead of his nearest competitor. Aydan Gladstone was third with a time of 17.8. In the 300 Hurdles, Jace Cousatte was third with a time of 47.4. Aydan Gladstone was fourth with a time of 48 seconds.
In the relays, the 4x100 team of Jaxon Anderson, Caleb Parman, Andrew Alarcon, and Bryant McCord won with a time of 45.5. The 4x200 team of Caleb Parman, Jaxon Anderson, ANdrew Alarcon, and Aydan Gladstone was third with a time of 1:39.1. The 4x400 team of Andrew Alarcon, Alex Rinehart, Jace Cousatte, and Josh Freed was second with a time of 4:01.
Jace Cousatte broke into the High Jump standings with a tie for sixth and a height of 5 feet. In the absence of Gage McAdams (East Atchison), Nate Adwell won the Pole Vault with a height of 12'6". Aydan Gladstone was third with a height of 10'6". Bryant McCord was third in the Long Jump with a jump of 19'6 1/2". Caleb Parman was fifth with a jump of 18'10 1/2". In the Long Jump, Caleb Parman was third with a jump of 39'8". Jaxon Anderson was fourth with a jump of 39'6".
Jacob New was second in the Shot Put with a throw of 38'11 1/2". Isaac Alarcon was third with a throw of 37'10 1/4". In the Discus, Isaac Alarcon was third with a throw of 109'5". Jackson Runde was fifth with a throw of 97'5". The Tigers were 2-3 in the Javelin as Jacob New was second with a throw of 137 feet. Alex Rinehart was third with a throw of 134 feet.
