The Worth County Progress Organization continues its efforts to demolish abandoned homes, with a home on Smith Street targeted for demolition, Economic Developer Gene Auten reported to the Worth County Commissioners Monday. He reported that next on the list was a home on Maple Street, near where Bruce Downing lives. The rock foundation is caving in, and the home is no longer livable. He reported that the City of Sheridan was looking to demolish some houses as well.
Auten reported that the land was transferred north of the Firehouse, which will be converted from a basketball court to a helipad for life flight helicopters. The old siren has been dismantled. He reported that he was at an Emergency Management District Region 8 meeting, and that they were expecting a national disaster declaration for the Missouri River flooding any time. Auten reported that he was working on setting up tire dropoff points from solid waste grants. He said he was looking into starting an ongoing trailer project.
