Where does the Time Go?

Over two decades ago, our country pooled together their resources to save a life. Perhaps you may remember being glued to the television for two days watching the rescue of an 18 month old girl from Midland, TX, Jessica McClure. She turned 25 last week!

It touched my life in many ways. I remember staying up half the night praying for this young child and for men to have the courage and wisdom to get her out of the abandoned well alive. It was a very emotional time for our country. It seemed people from all over the country got involved by praying, donating equipment, knowledge, bravery, and finances.

St. Joseph man Bobby George wrote a song as the events unfolded. Shortly afterwards, we got a call to come to the recording studio in Creston, IA to play on his recording. Unfortunately, "Jessica, the Little Girl in the Well" didn't become a hit song. It didn't discourage Bobby George either.

It proves that doing God's work can get you involved in unimaginable ways. I now have closure knowing my prayers did not fall on deaf ears. She survived with no memory of the ordeal. The fifteen surgeries afterwards allowed her to lead a normal life. I am glad God has been kind to her.

Then, I ask myself, "Where did the time go?" And, "Would our country be willing to donate their resources now should a similar situation arise?" Let us hope so!
