Sasha Deardorff, Baylie Busby, and Hadley DeFreece were all honored Friday on Senior Night and the Northeast Nodaway girls beat Stewartsville/Osborn 43-20.
They won their fourth straight game and 17th overall, improving on last year’s record with one regular season game to spare.
The script followed the Union Star game. The Bluejays jumped out to a big early lead, then subbed freely the rest of the way. Autumn Manley stole an inbounds pass and scored to put the Wildcards up 2-0, but the rest of the first quarter belonged to the Bluejays as Hayley Yost hit an outside shot, Baylie Busby hit a free throw, and then Busby drove with her left hand and threw up an off-balance shot, getting a three point play to make it 6-2. Hadley DeFreece stole and scored and Hayley Yost got a free throw after grabbing an offensive board to make it 9-2.
Addie Jackson’s free throws cut it to 9-4, but Skyler Florea came off the bench and grabbed four quick rebounds to set the tone. She got a third chance putback. Hadley DeFreece, normally a 3-point shooter, went backdoor and got a pass from Busby and converted a three point play. Skyler Florea went coast to coast to make it 16-4 after one.
Hadley DeFreece hit one of her corner threes and Baylie Busby hit a free throw to make it 20-4. At that point, Northeast Nodaway began subbing freely.
Addy Ramos’ 3-pointer cut the OSHS deficit to 20-8, but Mylee Wilmes went on a burst, scoring the last five points of the quarter to make it 25-8 at the half.
Northeast Nodaway continued to pull away for much of the third quarter as Hadley DeFreece opened with a corner three. DeFreece’s girl was frequently in the paint trying to stop Busby’s drives or the ball from getting into Hayley Yost or Skyler Florea in the post, but that led to plenty of open looks for her and Wilmes.
DeFreece inbounded one into Hayley Yost and Busby scored four straight to make it 34-15 at the 1:26 mark of the third quarter.
Addie Jackson did all she could to keep the Wildcards in the game, running wild on the boards with 19 for the night to go with 10 points. She hit a 3-pointer that sparked OSHS, and they fought back late in the third and early in the fourth to cut it to 36-20. But then Hayley Yost got two free throws to break the run, Sasha Deardorff hit Baylie Busby for three, and Yost scored off a Bristol Hicks pass to make it 43-20.
