Cole Ruby went off for 20 points, his most since the first Stanberry game in January, including a guarded half court shot at the first quarter buzzer as Worth County build up a big lead, held off a Mound City charge in the third quarter, and rebuilt their lead in the fourth to get a 58-43 win and break a three game losing streak.
The game started off tight, tied at 3, 5, and 7. But then Andrew Griffin, playing his best game as a Tiger, drove into the lane and hit a floater to spark a Tiger run. Cole Ruby then got a steal and turned it into free throws; Hayden Sanders fed Ruby for two more after Karson Briner got a steal, and then Caleb New lobbed one over the top to Karson Briner to make it 15-7.
Caleb New started and played most of the game; he moved much better than during the Christian game and even started looking for chances to drive the paint. Hayden Sanders came off the bench, played half the game, and started showing his old form; while he didn't score, he dished off six assists to lead the team.
Creyton Roup stepped back and hit a 3-pointer for Mound City to cut it to 15-10, only for Cole Ruby to hit a guarded three at the first quarter buzzer to make it 18-10 and spark the Tigers going into the second quarter.
The lead fluctuated between 8 and 12 for much of the second quarter until Cannon Fletcher dropped a 3-pointer and Lucas Frisch got a putback to make it 31-16. Lucas Frisch then hit Caleb New for three to make it 34-16. Chauncey Brown scored four straight for Mound City, but Cannon Fletcher hit a triple from the top of the key to make it 37-20 at the half.
But slumps have a way of dying hard, and sure enough, Creyton Roup and Chauncey Brown both went off to start the third quarter as the Panthers scored the first eight points of the quarter to make it 37-28. Mound City was pressing and denying everything trying to get back in the game. Caleb New hit a floater in the paint after Hayden Sanders got a steal and Andrew Griffin hit a baseline shot after Hayden Sanders kicked it out, but then Karson Briner picked up his third foul in the period and sat down.
With Briner on the bench, Mound City was crashing the boards at will and they came closer, with Roup hitting a 3-pointer to cut it to 41-35. Andrew Griffin, a bright spot for the Tigers in the period, got behind the Panther press and got a pass from Lucas Frisch for a layup, but then Brown hit a floater in traffic to make it 43-37 at the third quarter buzzer.
But Briner came back and the Tigers restored order as Caleb New lobbed it into him to start the period. Lucas Frisch came charging out of nowhere to snatch an offensive board and put it back in, and Karson Briner hit Cole Ruby, who got behind the press to make it 49-37.
Brown kept hitting for Mound City, but Caleb New hit a transition three and Cole Ruby got behind the Panther press and scored off a pass from New as the Tiger lead stayed in double digits. The dagger came thanks to one of Lucas Frisch's many hustle plays as he slapped an offensive board to Cole Ruby, who floated in the lane and scored. As Worth County was holding Mound City scoreless for the last 2:30, they had to start fouling, and Caleb New and Cole Ruby hit free throws down the stretch.
