Wyatt Maize, Jensen Davis Have Big Nights Against Bluejays

Wyatt Maize and Jensen Davis had big nights against Northeast Nodaway, with Maize getting 29 points and Davis adding 28 in a lopsided 82-34 win over the Bluejays. The Shamrocks struggled the previous week, dropping a 52-50 heartbreaker to Albany and a 58-38 loss to North Andrew. The Bluejays followed a similar pattern, dropping a close 44-36 game to Union Star and a lopsided 76-36 game to East Atchison. Both teams were on a skid, so something had to give.

But there was no rest for the weary as far as the Bluejays were concerned; the Shamrocks have struggled against top-level teams, but have feasted on lower-level teams this year. North Harrison proceeded to hang 31 points on the Bluejays to end the game early, swarming and pressing for the whole half. Wyatt Maize had 16 and Jensen Davis 11 in the period. Northeast tried to keep up with the Shamrocks, with Jake Redden going off for seven and Lance Runde adding four. But the avalanche continued in the second quarter, with Jensen Davis and Wyatt Maize each scoring 10 and four other Shamrocks chipping in. For the second straight quarter, the Shamrocks hung 31 points on the Bluejays in the quarter. North Harrison led 62-20 at the half.

The game was so lopsided that the coaches agreed to have a running clock for the whole second half. Even with the Shamrocks subbing freely in the third and fourth quarters and taking the press off, they continued to pull away after the Bluejays had scored the first four points of the period. A rare highlight for the Bluejays was when Chase Clabaugh stuffed a shot to set up a Lance Runde transition basket.

North Harrison led by as much as 80-28 before Lance Runde and Kyler Scadden hit 3-pointers at the end.
