The Hopkins CBC got permission from the Hopkins City Council at their regular meeting Monday to repair the sidewalk on the north side of Barnard Street, across the street from the Roxy. There were concerns about where the water line runs and that the repaired sidewalk might need to be dug up if the area is ever developed. The council members agreed that they would deal with it if any construction happens.
The council granted a liquor license to M2V Highway Liquor, located next to Cheri’s and across the street from the former Wilson Grocery building.
The owner of 208 South 2nd Street asked why he had gotten a water bill for 10,000 gallons. The Chief Water Operator changed out his old meter for a new one and the latest one was for 7,000 gallons. The council agreed to waive 9,000 gallons plus late charges.
The city got the Hopkins Fire Department grant for a new firetruck, but was denied the grant for the building demolition grant. A new round of CDBG grants opens in April. The city tabled the matter until after the February 18th meeting to have more information about what the city could better do to improve its chances of getting the grant.
Discussion was held on capping any sewer that has a lien on it. Council member Allan Thompson will bring a list of properties that the CBC might attempt to place on a grant.
Mayor Matt Wray signed paperwork for the Fire Department CDBG Grant that was approved. The city will now advertise fire truck specs and place it out for bid. A special meeting will be held at 3:30 February 18th, where the rules and regulations for the grant will be explained.
The council members were given a copy of the new pet policy, which specifies that any attack on humans or other pets is a violation. The council tabled it until the next meeting.
