The bubble burst for the Worth County girls last Tuesday as they fell 48-30 to undefeated Norborne. They ran into a buzzsaw as the Pirates worked the pick and roll to perfection as well as any team in the area, helped hard on defense, and swallowed up nearly all the defensive boards. Worth County didn't get its first offensive board until the four minute mark of the second quarter; by that time, the deficit was already 12 points and it swelled to 26-8 by halftime.
Anna Gladstone was injured in the second quarter; with the Tigers already down 17-7, she crumpled up in pain after rolling her ankle and was done for the afternoon.
In the second half, Regan Allee started finding the range and the Tigers rallied to within 28-17 at one point. But then all hell broke loose again as back to back threes from Olivia Dooley fueled a run that put the Pirates back up 37-17. Worth County got back to within 37-21 after three, but then Norborne started the fourth on an 8-0 run to put the game away.
Regan Allee had 14 points for the Tigers. Kristin New had 5, Kaylee McElvain 4, Jill Hardy 3, and Anna Gladstone and Megan Cassavaugh 2 each. Kaylee McElvain had 7 boards. Kristin New had 8 steals.
