Tiger Girls Board 55, Down Lafayette JV

Worth County’s girls beat out Lafayette JV 52-23 last Tuesday to break a slump and win the opening round of the Stanberry Tournament. The Tigers had dropped three out of their last four. Sometimes, breaking out of slumps means an ugly win. The Tigers missed a ton of shots in Tuesday’s match, but were swarming and flying to the glass, getting 55 boards in the win.

The Tigers jumped out to an early 5-0 lead as Kristin New hit a free throw and Anna Gladstone scored from inside and went coast to coast against three defenders. But then she sat with two fouls and the Irish climbed right back into the game. Erinn Lotspeich hit a guarded three to make it 5-4 after one, and then the green shirts moved ahead when Jersey Crouteau scored early in the second to make it 6-5.

But despite Anna on the bench with foul trouble, Worth County got going as Kristin New scored the next six points to put Worth County in front. Regan Allee cleaned up on a miss to put Worth County in front 13-6. Lotspeich converted a three point play to make it 13-9, but then Merrideth Spiers hit a free throw and scored off a putback, Regan Allee hit a 3-pointer and added a free throw, and Kristin New added two free throws to put the Tigers in front 22-11 at the break.

Anna Gladstone came back in and took over in the third, getting an inside shot, scoring off a steal, and converting off a Kristin New steal to make it 28-11 and force Lafayette JV into a timeout. But Worth County continued to pull away as Anna went on to get 10 points in the period. Allee, New, and Kaylee McElvain contributed as well as Worth County led 38-17 after three.

Regan Allee started off the fourth with a 3-pointer, Jill Hardy added another, Anna scored four more in the period, and EmiLee Brown got on the board for the first time of the year as the Tigers pulled away to a 30 point lead at one point.
