Camden Castleberry, Jayliegh Robins Bail Out Shamrocks

North Harrison let an early lead slip away against Maysville, a team that had beaten them by 51-30 last year. But just as it looked like they were given up for dead, the Shamrocks charged back into the lead after falling behind by as much as 5 in the fourth quarter. The game had some twists and turns and a crazy ending, but they came out on top 31-29 against the Wolverines for their fourth win of the year and their third win in their last four games in the opening round of the South Harrison Tournament. They did better against Princeton than the first time they played them, but dropped games to them and HDC title contender Tri-County for third place.

The Shamrocks held Maysville to their second lowest point total of the year; the Wolverines had put up 40 or more regularly even against strong teams, and had close losses against Albany and South Holt to their credit.

North Harrison had a rare offensive outburst as five quick points from Emma Craig put them ahead 5-2 at the outset. Maysville chipped away for the rest of the quarter and moved ahead 8-7 after one thanks to some outside shooting from Ashley Brown. But North Harrison appeared to be back in control again after Emma Craig scored off a steal, Camden Castleberry hit one free throw, Jayliegh Robins had two, and Camden hit Emma inside and then followed up with a 3-pointer to put North Harrison up 17-8. Claire Catlett’s free throws closed Maysville to within 17-12, but Emma Craig grabbed a defensive board and went the distance to put the Shamrocks back in front 19-12.

But then North Harrison reverted to form and couldn’t buy a bucket as Maysville chipped away, eventually moving in front 24-22 after Catlett’s 3-pointer. Catlett hit another at the start of the fourth to put Maysville up 27-22, seemingly in control.

But then Camden Castleberry hit a guarded NBA 3-pointer from the left wing with three minutes left to revive North Harrison’s chances. After North Harrison got the ball back, Camden hit Jayliegh Robins on the baseline to put North Harrison up 28-27 with 1:38 left. Following a Maysville turnover, Jayliegh had a wide open look at another three with just over a minute left, but it went in and out. But Ashley Brown missed a go-ahead three with 46.3 seconds and Carly Rinehart made one of two at the line to make it 29-27 after Maysville was forced to foul.

Robins then jumped a pass at midcourt and North Harrison took it down to 26.7 seconds before Camden Castleberry hit one out of two to make it 30-27. Maysville had a chance to tie with a three, but Catlett missed a 3-pointer. Emily Brown got an offensive board and kicked it out to Catlett for another look with 8 seconds left, and her shot was nothing but net, seemingly sending the game into overtime. But it turned out that she was two feet inside the line, meaning North Harrison preserved a one point lead at 30-29.

North Harrison got it into Camden Castleberry and she rushed it into the other end, dribbling all but 1.6 seconds off the clock before she was fouled. She made one out of two, and Maysville could not get a shot off before time expired.
