Bluejays Use Big Second Quarter to Down Tri-County

Northeast Nodaway’s boys used a big second quarter to pull away from Tri-County in the loser’s bracket round of the South Harrison Tournament last Wednesday and got the 50-30 win. The Consolation Games were not played due to inclement weather. The 3rd place and 1st place games were played as scheduled.

The Bluejays jumped out to a 6-0 lead to begin with as Reed McIntyre scored off a drive, Mitchell Sherry scored in transition, and Nate Schieber hit two free throws. But then Tri-County chipped away for the rest of the period and knotted it at 11 by the end of the period.

The game remained tied at 13 for the first four minutes of the second quarter before Ben Boswell and Reed McIntyre put the Bluejays ahead 17-13. But then the Bluejays picked things up defensively, getting seven steals in the last 3:30 of the second quarter to go up 34-15 at the half.

Auston Pride hit a 3-pointer from the top of the key, Ben Boswell got a steal and reverse layup after Mitchell Sherry got a tip, Pride scored off a steal, Dylan McIntyre and Mitchell Sherry scored from inside, Reed McIntyre scored off a drive, Dylan scored again after Ben Boswell kept a possession alive with an offensive board, and Boswell scored off a steal during the run.

Ice cold shooting plagued the Bluejays in the third quarter, and Tri-County got as close as 13 in the period. NEN did not score a single field goal until Dylan McIntyre converted a 3-point play with 7 seconds left in the third to make it 39-23 after three.

After that, Northeast got back on track as Drew Wiederholt scored off a free throw, Auston Pride scored from inside, Ben Boswell hit two free throws, Pride got loose inside, and Zach Pride cleaned up on a Colton Swalley steal to give NEN its biggest lead of the night at 50-29.

Auston Pride had 19 to lead the Bluejays. Ben Boswell had 9, Dylan McIntyre 7, Reed McIntyre 6, Mitchell Sherry 4, Nathan Schieber and Zach Pride 2, and Drew Wiederholt 1.

Nathan Schieber had 2 blocks, while Mitchell Sherry and Rory Bredlow had 1.

Ben Boswell had 5 boards. Nathan Schieber and Mitchell Sherry had 4, Drew Wiederholt and Auston Pride 3 each, Reed McIntyre, Ethan Adwell, and Rory Bredlow 2, and Zach Pride 1.

Ben Boswell had 9 assists. Reed McIntyre had 3, Drew Wiederholt 2, and Dylan McIntyre and Auston Pride 1 each.

Ben Boswell had 5 tips. Auston Pride had 4, Mitchell Sherry 3, Nathan Scheiber 2, and Dylan McIntyre and Lane Dack 1.

Auston Pride, Ben Boswell, Mitchell Sherry, Drew Wiederholt, and Colton Swalley had 3 steals each. Dylan McIntyre and Ethan Adwell had 2 each, while Reed McIntyre and Rory Bredlow had 1 each.
