Courthouse News for January 15th, 2020

On December 27th, Doniphan County Attorney Charles Baskins filed amended charges of 2nd Degree Murder against Scott Vandeloo (44), Matthew Scherer (30) and Brian Spillman (22) of Atchison County in conjunction with the death of Jason Pantle (42) of Cummings (KS), who died of serious head injuries on September 28th. KQ2 reports that it was in conjunction with a fight that occurred on September 22nd.

On January 1st, at around 11:37 am, a vehicle driven by Oscar Kent (60) of Lucas (IA) was preparing to exit Casey’s in Mount Ayr and made a left turn to travel west on Highway 2. He saw a vehicle driven by Vance Frueh (57) of Ottumwa, but believed he was turning north. Frueh continued east, resulting in a collision. Kent and a passenger refused treatment. He was cited for Failure to Yield. Frueh was lifeflighted to Mercy Hospital in Des Moines.

On January 2nd, the Ringgold County Sheriff’s Department arrested Christopher Earl Baker (36) of Diagonal on charges of Domestic Assault and Obstruction of Emergency Communications. He is being held on no bond until seen by a magistrate.

On January 3rd, US District Court Chief Judge John Jarvey sentenced Chanel Traci Huff (34) of Maryville to 10 years in prison for Conspiracy to Distribute Methamphetamine. The prison term will be followed by a 5 year term of supervised release.

Todd Ites, 31, of Bedford, was arrested in the 800 block of Madison street in Bedford on January 4, 2020. Ites was stopped for driving while suspended. During the course of the traffic stop he was found in possession of a controlled substance. He was charged with a class D felony for a controlled substance violation. He was held at the Taylor County Jail on $5,000 cash or surety pending before making an appearance before the Magistrate.

On January 4th, the Missouri State Highway Patrol arrested Candie Limon (30) of Van Buren (AR) in Harrison County on charges of Driving the Wrong Way on Divided Highway, No Valid License, Displaying Plates of Another, Possession of Drug Paraphernalia (Prior), Possession of Synthetic Cannabinoid (Prior), DWI (Drugs), two counts Possession of Controlled Substance (Felony), three counts Possession of Controlled Substance at County Jail (Felony), and Felony Fugitive from Out of State. She was subsequently charged by Harrison County Jonathan Meyer.

On January 4th, Harrison County Prosecutor Jonathan Meyer filed charges against Marvin Ruiz-Ruiz (39) of Kansas City (KS) alleging DWI (Felony).

Heather Green, 33, of Bedford, was arrested on January 5, 2020, following an investigation into a theft at the Dollar General in Lenox. Green was charged with theft in the fifth degree. She has since been released from the Taylor County Jail following an appearance before the Magistrate.

On January 6th, Harrison County Prosecutor Jonathan Meyer filed charges against Nicholas Cox (34) of Conception Junction alleging Endangering the Welfare of a Child (Felony).

On January 6th, Special Prosecutor Barbara Klima filed charges against Burton West (36) of Shawnee (KS) in Nodaway County alleging Non-Support (Felony).

On January 6th, Nodaway County Prosecutor Robert Rice filed charges against Kelby Hansen (25) of Hopkins alleging Violating Privileges of Landowner Deer Permit.

On January 6th, Nodaway County Prosecutor Robert Rice filed charges against Tyler Bix (18) of Sheridan alleging No Valid Deer Permit.

On January 6th, Nodaway County Prosecutor Robert Rice filed charges against Colton Mattson (29) of Kansas City alleging Hunting, Taking & Abandoning Wildlife.

On January 6th, Nodaway County Prosecutor Robert Rice filed charges against Aaron Harms (27) of Dows (IA) alleging Failure to Check Deer as Prescribed.

On January 6th, Nodaway County Prosecutor Robert Rice filed charges against Ryan Schmidt (29) of Belton (MO) alleging No Valid Deer Permit.

On January 6th, Nodaway County Prosecutor Robert Rice filed charges against Danny Marriott (54) of Clearmont alleging Violating Privileges of Landowner Deer Permit.

On January 6th, Nodaway County Prosecutor Robert Rice filed charges against David Simmerman (32) of Stanberry alleging No Valid Deer Permit.

On January 6th, Nodaway County Prosecutor Robert Rice filed charges against Trenton Stumpff (49) of Barnard alleging Violating Privileges of Landowner Deer Permit.

On January 6th, Nodaway County Prosecutor Robert Rice filed charges against Austin Steffy (20) of Burlington Junction alleging No Valid Deer Permit.

On January 7th, Nodaway County Prosecutor Robert Rice filed charges against Dwan Marshall (24) of Maryville alleging No Valid License, No Insurance, and No Tail Light.

On January 7th, Harrison County Prosecutor Jonathan Meyer filed charges against Jannell Taylor (28) of Kansas City alleging Possession of Marijuana.

On January 7th, Harrison County Prosecutor Jonathan Meyer filed charges against Dawn Adams alleging Driving While Revoked and No Seat Belt.

On January 7th, the Missouri State Highway Patrol arrested Roel Lazano (53) of Zapata (TX) in Harrison County  on a Harrison County Warrant for Failure to Appear (Equipment Violation).

On January 7th, Worth County Prosecutor Janet Wake Larison filed charges against Daniel Elder (46) of Sibley (MO) alleging No Insurance and Speeding.

On January 7th, Worth County Prosecutor Janet Wake Larison filed charges against Michael Troutwine alleging No Seat Belt.

On January 7th, Worth County Prosecutor Janet Wake Larison filed charges against Larry Overholser (61) of Benton (IA) alleging No Seat Belt.

On January 7th, Worth County Prosecutor Janet Wake Larison filed charges against Roy Kelly (51) of West Monroe (LA) alleging Failure to Drive on Right Half of Roadway and No Seat Belt.

On January 8th, Harrison County Prosecutor Jonathan Meyer filed charges against Eric Briggs (27) of Trenton alleging Failure to Check Deer as Prescribed and Violating Landowner Hunter Permit.

On January 8th, CNN reported that a Kentucky judge, Dawn Gentry, was suspended with pay after she was charged with nine counts of misconduct. Allegations include Nepotism, Retaliation, having an affair with a man and a woman, filing inaccurate timesheets, holding unofficial conferences outside of trials, making sexual advances towards another female attorney, and coercing government employees to donate to her election campaign.

On January 8, 2020, at approximately 2:30 a.m. Deputies with the Taylor County Sheriff’s Office made a traffic stop on a 2019 GMC Acadia in the 400 block of Madison Street in Bedford for traveling above the posted speed limit. Taylor County K9 Ciba arrived and indicated to the presence of narcotic odor in the vehicle. Following a subsequent search of the vehicle, Deputies located approximately one pound of marijuana and one half pound of methamphetamine. As a result of the traffic stop, Elizabeth Villanueva, 35, of Lenox, was taken into custody on charges of Possession of a Controlled Substance - Methamphetamine, a Class B Felony, Possession of a Controlled Substance – Marijuana, a Class D Felony, and two counts of Child Endangerment, an Aggravated Misdemeanor. Villanueva was booked into the Taylor County Jail without the ability to post bond until after an initial appearance before the Magistrate.

On January 8th, the Buchanan County Prosecutor’s Office filed charges against Jason Johnson alleging that he made a bomb threat to the South Belt Wal-Mart in St. Joseph. KQ2 reports that he had allegedly threatened to blow up the store after the store had refused to accept an item that he was attempting to return.

 Linda Mae Lammers, 55, Maryville, pleaded guilty to Abuse or Neglect of a Child in Cause # 17ND-CR00140-01 on January 8, 2020, in the Nodaway County Courthouse, and was sentenced to serve 7 years in prison with the Missouri Department of Corrections. The guilty plea concluded an over 2-year investigation and prosecution of the defendant that included another defendant, Matthew Lebow, who previously pleaded guilty to child molestation in the 2nd degree on a child less than 12 years of age to the same victim, and who was sentenced to serve 10 years in prison with the Missouri Department of Corrections in Cause #19ND-CR00312-01.

On January 8th, the Missouri State Highway Patrol arrested William Perkins (49) of McFall in Harrison County on charges of Tampering with a Motor Vehicle (Felony), Possession of a Stolen Vehicle (Felony), three counts Resisting Arrest (2 Felonies)), Driving While Revoked, Possession of Drug Paraphernalia, Failure to Yield to an Emergency Vehicle, Speeding (26 mph+), Failure to Drive on Right Half, Displaying Plates Owned by Another, No Plates, and Failure to Signal. Harrison County Prosecutor Jonathan Meyer filed charges on January 9th. Bond was set at $15,000, cash only.

On January 8th, the Missouri State Highway Patrol arrested Jonathon Holbrook (19) of Guilford on charges of Failure to Display Tab on Plate, Possession of Drug Paraphernalia, and Possession of Marijuana.

On January 9th, Special Prosecutor Myra Stout filed charges against Dakota Springer (26) of Bethany in Harrison County alleging seven counts Non-Support.

On January 9th, Worth County Prosecutor Janet Wake Larison filed charges against William Raymond Job (79) of Maryville alleging No Seat Belt.

On January 9th, the Ringgold County Sheriff’s Department arrested Charles Fletcher on a charge of DWI.

On January 10th, Brandon Vanmeter (31) pleaded guilty in Platte County Circuit Court to Statutory Sodomy (Felony) and received 30 years from Judge James Van Amburg. KQ2 reports the eight year old victim reported the abuse after she told staff after the school had given a presentation about “bad touch.” Vanmeter will not be eligible for parole for 25½ years.

On January 10th, the Ringgold County Sheriff’s Department arrested Leonard Keller (34) of Creston on a warrant for Failure to Appear.

On January 13th in St. Louis, Maya Caston (25) of St. Louis was charged with 2nd Degree Murder and Abuse & Neglect after her two twin children were found dead. CNN reports she had stated to the cops that her children were stillborn; however, the allegations state that she covered her childrens’ mouths and noses with a towel and a blanket and concealed them.

Rony Lopez, 39, of Lenox, was arrested on January 13, 2020. Lopez was stopped for driving while his license was suspended. Lopez exited the vehicle and against the Deputies orders left the scene. Lopez was located at his residence and taken into custody. Lopez was charged with driving while license suspended, no proof of insurance, and interference with official acts. Lopez was held on $300 bond and has since been released from the Taylor County Jail after posting the bond.

On January 13th, a large dog was taken to the Mount Ayr city dog pound.

On January 13th, Harrison County Prosecutor Jonathan Meyer filed charges against Kevin Wilson (30) of Albany alleging Violation of a Protection Order.

On January 13th, Harrison County Prosecutor Jonathan Meyer filed charges against Cody Tucker (26) of Bethany alleging Domestic Assault.

On January 13th, Harrison County Prosecutor Jonathan Meyer filed charges against Homero Medrano (44) of Mission (TX) alleging DWI.

On January 13th, Harrison County Prosecutor Jonathan Meyer filed charges against Johnnie Mapps (62) of Anoka (MN) alleging Possession of Marijuana, Possession of Drug Paraphernalia, and Speeding (20-25 mph over).

On January 13th, Harrison County Prosecutor Jonathan Meyer filed charges against Aaron Fleener (48) of Kansas City alleging No Insurance.

On January 13th, Gentry County Prosecutor Jessica Jones filed charges against Donald Hume (39) of Stanberry alleging two counts Armed Criminal Action (Felony), and two counts Unlawful Use of a Weapon (Felony).

On January 13th, Worth County Prosecutor Janet Wake Larison filed charges against Ann Gilland (60) of Grant City alleging Speeding.

Charges listed are mere allegations. Evidence in support of the charges must be presented before a court of competent jurisdiction whose duty it is to determine guilt or innocence. All defendants are presumed innocent until proven guilty.
