Alex Rinehart went off on Norborne for 31 points and the Worth County Tigers avenged the girls first loss of the season, shutting down the Pirates 55-35 last Tuesday. The Pirates had only two wins on the season, against winless Breckenridge (58-8) and winless Braymer (44-42). But they jumped out in front early, fueled by shooting from Colton Stoner and Kobe Gibson as they jumped out to a 10-4 lead.
That was when Rinehart, back from a cruise, suddenly went off for the Tigers, scoring 13 points in the period as they erased their early deficit and jumped out to an 18-10 lead after one. Alex scored off two steals, a three-pointer, a drive, and a transition basket and Jackson Runde added a 3-pointer off a skip from Jaxon Anderson. Zayne Swope, who earned more minutes last Tuesday after his solid showing in the Christian game, stole three in the early going to set the tone.
Jackson Runde hit his second three and then Alex Rinehart hit another three and then went coast to coast for a three point play to make it 27-12. Gibson cut it to 27-14 for Norborne, but then Anderson hit two free throws and Alex Rinehart finished a fast break after Zayne Swope got a tip, Jaxon Anderson got a steal, and Aydan Gladstone got it to Rinehart for the finish. Keyton Laire got loose in transition for the Pirates, but then Lucas Wake came off the bench and got a steal and fed Rinehart, and Jaxon Anderson aired one out to Rinehart for his 25th point of the half to make it 35-16. As the foul trouble mounted for the Pirates, the Tigers found more and more transition opportunities.
Laire got the hot hand for Norborne, and the Pirates rallied to within 15, but the foul trouble took its toll again, and Alex Rinehart hit a thee-point play and Aydan Gladstone scored from inside as Jaxon Anderson was feeding them as the Tigers took a 47-27 lead. Five straight points for Jackson Runde gave Worth County its biggest lead of the afternoon at 52-27 before coach Les New began subbing freely.
Alex Rinehart had 31 for the Tigers. Jackson Runde had 11, Jaxon Anderson 6, Aydan Gladstone 4, and Lucas Wake 3. Jaxon Anderson had 8 boards and Jackson Runde 7. Jaxon Anderson had 8 assists and Aydan Gladstone had 5. Jaxon Anderson had 5 steals.
