Courthouse News for January 22nd, 2020

On January 14th, the Buchanan County Prosecutor’s office filed charges against Daryl Gill (56) of St. Joseph alleging Possession of Child Pornography (Felony). Bond was set at $20,000, and he was ordered not to have contact with children.
On January 14th, Harrison County Prosecutor Jonathan Meyer filed charges against Valentin Chavez (42) of Kansas City (KS) alleging No Valid License.
On January 14th, Harrison County Prosecutor Jonathan Meyer filed charges against Scott Lester (59) of Naples (FL) alleging No Valid Interstate Fuel License.
On January 14th, Harrison County Prosecutor Jonathan Meyer filed charges against Ethan McVey (20) of Bethany alleging No Valid License.
On January 15th, Harrison County Prosecutor Jonathan Meyer filed charges against Michael Welling (43) of Eagleville alleging three counts Endangering the Welfare of a Child (Felony).
On January 15th, KMA reports that Sondra Mae Cobb (37) and Dylan Cattano (18) were arrested after they had tried to pay for their bill with counterfeit bills at a convenience store in Red Oak. Cobb was charged with Forgery, Possession of Controlled Substance, and Possession of Drug Paraphernalia. Cattano was charged with Theft, Possession of Controlled Substance, and Possession of Drug Paraphernalia.
On January 16th, KQ2 reports that there was a shooting on the 1400 Block of Hickory Street in St. Joseph that night. A person was transported to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries.
On January 16, 2020, The Taylor County Sheriff's Office responded to a one vehicle accident in the 2800 block of 130th Street (J20), southwest of Lenox. A 2002 Ford F-150 driven by Ricky Scott, 60, of Lenox, attempted to swerve to miss a canine in the roadway and exited the roadway and flipped onto it's side in the north ditch. Scott was transported by LifeNet 2-3 to Mercy Medical Center in Des Moines. The vehicle is considered a total loss. The Taylor County Sheriff's Office was assisted on scene by Taylor County EMS and Lenox Fire.
On January 16th, Harrison County Prosecutor Jonathan Meyer filed charges against Joseph Bontreger (36) of Bethany alleging 4 counts Statutory Rape (Felony), 2 counts Statutory Sodomy (Felony), 3 counts Sexual Misconduct Involving a Minor (Felony), and Incest.
On January 16th, Nodaway County Prosecutor Robert Rice filed charges against Michael Barron (52) of Maryville alleging Failure to Register.
On January 17th, the Buchanan County Prosecutor’s Office filed charges against Paul Shelton (54) of St. Joseph alleging  Statutory Rape. KQ2 says the charges involved acts with a girl under 14 between 2016 and 2019. Bond was set at $20,000.
On January 18th, after midnight, the Ringgold County Sheriff’s Office received a call about an electric scooter along the highway. If you are missing a scooter, please call the Ringgold County Sheriff’s Office at (641) 464-3921.
On January 19th, the Missouri State Highway Patrol arrested Daniel Evans (43) on charges of DWI (Felony) and Leaving the Scene.
On January 19th, the Ringgold County Sheriff’s Office arrested Ely Will (26) of Clearfield on three Clarke County (IA) warrants.
On January 20th, KMA reported two students escaped from Clarinda Academy, stole a car, and headed westbound on Route 2. They were apprehended following a high speed chase along 2.
Charges listed are mere allegations. Evidence in support of the charges must be presented before a court of competent jurisdiction whose duty it is to determine guilt or innocence. All defendants are presumed innocent until proven guilty.
