Obituary -- Tom Trullinger 1950-2025

Thomas Leroy “Tom” Trullinger, of Grant City, Missouri, passed away on Saturday, October 18, 2025, surrounded by the family he loved deeply throughout his life. Tom was a tall man—in stature and in spirit—with a gentle nature and a generous heart. He will be profoundly missed.

Tom was born 75 years ago in Bethany, Missouri, to Glen and Rachel Trullinger, who preceded him in death. A devoted family man, he dedicated his life to caring for those he loved and to serving his community.

For 28 years, Tom served as a Missouri State Highway Patrolman in Troop H. Most of his career was spent patrolling Nodaway and Worth counties, where he made his home for many years. He also worked undercover in southern Missouri and later served as corporal and then sergeant in Caldwell and Livingston counties. Before retiring in 2001, he was the sergeant on the riverboat casino detail in St. Joseph.

While his daily duties often centered on traffic safety, Tom’s keen mind and determination made him an asset in major criminal investigations, especially through his work with the North Central Missouri Major Case Squad. After retiring from the Patrol, he continued to give back as a substitute teacher, basketball coach, and deputy sheriff. Whatever the role, Tom approached every job with integrity and a steady sense of purpose—always guided by his love for family and his moral convictions with an eye to the future.

Even in the midst of his busy professional life, Tom found time to farm his land along Highway 46. He enjoyed experimenting with sustainable practices and took pride in caring for his fields and livestock. Friends and neighbors liked to joke that if Tom cut hay, it was sure to rain soon after.  In his retirement, Tom enjoyed fly-tying, fishing, and walking with his dogs.

Tom is survived by his wife, Judy, whom he loved with deep devotion; his son, Tim, and his husband, John; his daughter, Jennifer, and her husband, Michael; and his four grandchildren: Jarom and his wife, Jewel; Ainsley; Rebekah; and Holly. He is also survived by his siblings, Ed and his wife, Margaret; Terry; and Marcie and her husband, David; along with many cherished nieces, nephews, and dear friends.

Tom will be remembered for his strength, sharp mind, sense of humor, and unwavering love for Judy.

Tom’s body has been cremated under the care of the Andrews-Hann Funeral Home, Grant City.

In lieu of a traditional funeral, a memorial visitation will be held on Saturday, November 1, 2025, from 2 pm to 4 pm at the Hann Funeral Chapel in Grant City. Private family inurnment will be held at a later date.

Memorials may be made to the St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital (St Jude.org)
