Brooklyn Smith, Keylee Smith Gash Panthers as Tigers Win Big

Brooklyn Smith and Keylee Smith had big nights for Worth County's junior high basketball team as they beat Pattonsburg 49-2 Tuesday, October 28th.

Pattonsburg had every right to expect to put up some kind of a fight, since they had games under their belt and Worth County was playing its first game. But the stats were totally lopsided in Worth County's favor; they forced 33 turnovers while surrendering the ball only 14 times. They outrebounded Pattonsburg 34-13, and Pattonsburg got hardly any looks at the basket all night.

It started just a few seconds into the game when Worth County controlled the tap, and Renae Gladstone threw ahead to Brecklyn Rush for the first points of the season. Gladstone inbounded to Brooklyn Smith for her first three points of the season and free throws from Jane Hawk pushed it up to 7-0. Keylee Smith got on the board for the first time off a pass from Renae Gladstone after Gwyn Healy got a steal, and then Brooklyn Smith was all by herself after making a backdoor cut and followed up with a steal after Keylee Smith got a tip. Keylee Smith, only a sixth grader, heated up in the post, scoring four more to close out the quarter with the Tigers up 17-0. Addley Hulet did all she could for the Panthers, getting four boards in the quarter, but they could not even get off a shot at the basket most of the time.

Brooklyn Smith got loose inside twice off passes from Jane Hawk, and Brecklyn Rush got on the board with a putback to make it 23-0. Hulet finally broke the shutout for Pattonsburg, but Keylee Smith got loose inside and got a pass from Gabbey Maudlin and then Gwyn Healy threw a long pass down the court to find her in the high post to make it 27-2 at the half.

Brooklyn continued to score for the Tigers in the third quarter, getting a steal and then cashing in off a Renae Gladstone steal. Brooklyn Smith got a tip and steal and fed Renae Gladstone, and then Jane Hawk found Brooklyn Smith down low for two. Putbacks by Renae Gladstone and Keylee Smith put the Tigers up 39-2 and triggered the running clock.

Brooklyn Smith collected two more steals and knocked down a shot from the right side after a fourth-chance board by Jane Hawk, who kicked it out to her. Jane Hawk hit a pair of free throws and Gabbey Maudlin knocked down a baseline shot after Gwynn Healy pushed it up the floor.
