The game was tied early at 2 and 4 before Scotty Briggs and Jhet Rinehart moved the Shamrocks into a 10-4 lead early. Free throws from Hudson Warner cut it to 10-6, but then new coach Trey Baker called a timeout and drew up a play right before the first quarter buzzer and Rinehart got loose at the buzzer to put the Shamrocks up 12-6.
But then the struggles from only having won two games all season last year started to pop up. They were hacking and fouling, and Hudson Warner was keeping Winston in the game with his scoring and ball-handling. The Redbirds crept closer and closer as the second quarter progressed, getting to within 14-11 before Jhet connected to give North Harrison a 16-11 lead at halftime.
Jhet Rinehart had the hot hand early as the Shamrocks grabbed a 20-12 lead early in the third, but then Warner kept Winston hanging around, bringing his team to within 20-16. Keaton Hill hit a free throw and added a drive and a free throw to make it 23-16, but then Warner got a steal and a pair of free throws and Walker Estep added a jumper to bring Winston to within 23-20.
Once again, Rinehart carried the Shamrocks on his shoulder starting with a 3-pointer to start the fourth quarter. The Shamrocks played lights-out defense as Rinehart kept hitting to give the Shamrocks a 29-20 lead with 1:23 left.
But then Winston put on a press and North Harrison started panicking, throwing the ball on offense and hacking and fouling on defense. Sometimes, slumps have a way of dying hard. Free throws from Warner with 40 seconds left made it 29-22 and then he got a steal. He missed, but Raylan Adkison got the offensive board and hit two free throws with 31.8 seconds left. North Harrison then threw the ball away without a tick coming off the block, and Adkison got loose inside to make it 29-26.
Once again, North Harrison threw it away and this time put Walker Estep on the line. He missed two tries, but Warner got a steal with 9 seconds left, drove to the right corner, and threw up an off-balance triple. But it went astray and Keaton Hill grabbed the defensive board for North Harrison and bear-hugged the ball for dear life for the last three seconds to seal the win.

The girls were not so fortunate as they fell 28-18 to Winston. The Shamrocks had nobody who could guard Redbird skyscraper Gracie Youtsey, who had 24 of Winston's 28 points. They trailed by as much as 10-1 in the first half before showing life, as Tayley Johnson hit a 3-pointer and Hadley Williams hit from the right wing to cut it to 12-6 at the break.
Youtsey and the Redbirds built it back up to 22-10 late in the third, and to add insult to injury, the referees gave them a timeout when they didn't even have control of the ball and had turned it over. Just as things started to snowball, Long got the hot hand for North Harrison and scored eight straight for North Harrison, who closed to within 22-18 early in the fourth before Youtsey and the Redbirds restored order and scored the last six.
Amelia Long had 10 points for the Shamrocks. Tayley Johnson had 5 and Hadley Williams had 3.
