Chyles Webb Gets Triple Double for JH Hawks in Win; Kyndall Hunter Leads Frantic Rally for Panthers

Chyles Webb showed that she is as good as advertised; after dominating the competition at the Elementary shootout last spring, she took her game to the next level as she led Gilman City to a 34-28 win over Pattonsburg. She had 12 points, 12 boards, and 12 tips for the Hawks as their swarming defense was too much for the Panthers much of the night. But Kyndall Hunter (no relation to Lexi Hunter of South Harrison) nearly led the Panthers back from the dead as they put together a fourth quarter rally that fell just short.

The teams traded blows in the early going with Nova Smith and Aspen Wyatt getting some baskets early for the Hawks and Kyndall Hunter and Taylor Mason getting two for the Panthers. The game was tied at 4-4 before Chyles Webb got loose in transition and loose for a putback. Carsynn Robertson added a shot off the bench to put the Hawks up 10-4.

But with Webb in foul trouble, Hunter and the Panthers clawed back; Kendall got four and Lilly Provance a drive as they tied the game back up at 10. Pattonsburg rebuilt the lead by working the inside as Wyatt and Nova Smith got loose before Charlee Morris' free throw cut the Panther deficit to 14-11 at the half.

Chyles Webb stayed on the floor for the third quarter and got four points; Mallory Chalfant got untracked with four points, and Emmery Smith got on the board during a 10-0 Hawk run that left them up 24-11. The lead stayed between 10 and 12 before Chyles Webb scored off a drive and Emmery Smith got loose on the boards twice in the fourth to make it 34-18.

But Kamryn Thrash hit a pair of free throws for Pattonsburg to stop the bleeding and the Panthers suddenly started stealing the ball at will down the stretch. Kelsey Tucker and Lilly Provance got loose in transition before Kyndall Hunter scored four straight at the end.
