Kathy Richardson addressed the North Harrison board regarding fundraising for the track. She has had people approach her with concerns about not having any high school track meets. The school has hosted junior high track meets, but not high school. There are two things that need to be done. First, the discus area needs to be moved because the shot put and discus areas are too close together. The pole vault area also needs to be finished. The school already has the equipment they need but the pad and vault box. Richardson is organizing a 5k Color Run to be held during the Eagleville Fall Festival.
Superintendent Mike Tipton ran his first board meeting at North Harrison. He said his goal is to communicate with staff, students, and community members as transparently as possible. He says his door is always open to members of the community.
Information was presented about Senate Bill 63 and Senate Bill 68. Senate Bill 63 makes it possible for homeschool and online students to participate in sports and extracurricular activities without attending the school for any amount of time at all. MSHSAA is in the process of developing guidance. Senate Bill 68 now requires all school districts to prohibit the use of electronic devices from bell to bell. At North Harrison, academic purposes and emergencies are the only two exceptions. These exceptions include dual credit students, who have to log in on their phones for academic purposes. Staff are expected not to be on their phones during instructional time; they can use their phone during plan time.
All students at North Harrison are now expected to turn in phones at the office before school. If a phone goes off in their locker, bag, or pocket, staff are expected to confiscate it and turn the phone in to the office with the appropriate discipline referral.
The board hired April Vandiver as a full time sub and speech paraprofessional and Bruce Williams as a 1/2 time Social Studies teacher.
