A wrong way driver led to two different wrecks on I-35 Friday morning near Lathrop. The Missouri State Highway Patrol reports that a 2021 Dodge Journey driven by Juana Tores (30) of Austin (MN) was northbound on I-35 ½ a mile south of Lathrop at around 12:10 am when a 2004 BMW 3251 driven by Scott Ford (48) of Kansas City drove the wrong way, entering southbound into the northbound lane of I-35. The two vehicles collided head-on. Ford was killed in the accident, while three juveniles, aged 3, 11, and 14 in the Journey were seriously injured and taken to Children’s Mercy. The Patrol says Ford was not insured.
Subsequently, the Patrol says that a 2008 Jeep Patriot driven by Jerry Yochim (56) of Brookfield was northbound on I-35 and struck both vehicles while they were stationary in the roadway five minutes later. Yochim received moderate injuries and was taken to Cameron Regional. The Patrol says Jochim was not insured.
