Courthouse News for 1-13-21

On December 31st, the St. Joseph News-Press reported that a riot at the Maryville Treatment Center destroyed a housing unit and administrative offices there. At around 10:20 pm that night, three inmates allegedly refused to cooperate when questioned about consuming intoxicating substances and began destroying property. Other inmates then joined in. Around 20 to 25 inmates were allegedly involved.

On January 4th, Nodaway County Prosecutor Caleb Phillips filed charges against Fabien Calloud (21) of Maryville alleging Leaving the Scene and Careless & Imprudent Driving (Accident).

On January 5th, Nodaway County Prosecutor Caleb Phillips filed charges against Jerimey Thompson (42) of Maryville alleging DWI, No Insurance, and Failure to Display Two Headlamps.

On January 5th, Gentry County Prosecutor Jessica Jones filed charges against Nathaniel Raines (31) of Platte City alleging Resisting Arrest (Felony) and Speeding (26+ mph over). Bond was set at $2,500, cash or surety.

On January 6th, Harrison County Prosecutor Johnathan Meyer filed charges against Jacob Armburst (34) of Richfield (MN) alleging Property Damage (Felony). Bond was set at $5,000, cash only.

On January 6th, Nodaway County Prosecutor Caleb Phillips filed charges against Ethen Bentley (30) of Stella (NE) alleging two counts Assault (Felony), Domestic Assault (Felony), Resisting Arrest (Felony), and Property Damage (Felony). Bond was denied.

On January 6th, Nodaway County Prosecutor Caleb Phillips filed charges against Cheyanna Gordan (35) of Rulo (NE) alleging Possession of Controlled Substance. Bond was set at $50,000, cash or surety.

On January 7th, Harrison County Prosecutor Johnathan Meyer filed charges against Charity Doty (35) of Bethany alleging Child Abuse (Felony). Bond was set at $50,000, cash only.

 On January 7, 2021 at 2:19 pm the Ringgold County Sheriff’s Office, Mount Ayr Fire Department, Diagonal Fire Department, Kellerton Fire Department and Ringgold County Ambulance responded to a house fire in Mount Ayr, Iowa. Cody Atkins, age 31 of Mount Ayr, Iowa awoke to a house full of smoke. Cody was able to exit the residence where a citizen passing by was able to stop and help provide assistance while emergency personnel responded. Cause of the fire is undetermined.   

On January 8th, Harrison County Prosecutor Johnathan Meyer filed charges against Charity Wayman (48) of Cainsville alleging DWI and Failure to Drive on Right Half of Roadway.

On January 9th, Nodaway County Prosecutor Caleb Phillips filed charges against Jared Salinas (25) alleging Domestic Assault (Felony). Bond was set at $30,000, cash or corporate surety.

On January 11th, Harrison County Prosecutor Johnathan Meyer filed charges against Amber Watkins (35) of Bethany alleging Child Abuse (Felony). 

On January 11th, the Ringgold County Sheriff’s Department arrested Veron Thomas Nellis (43) of Mount Ayr on a charge of Felon in Possession of Firearm.

Charges listed are mere allegations. Evidence in support of the charges must be presented before a court of competent jurisdiction whose duty it is to determine guilt or innocence. All defendants are presumed innocent until proven guilty.
