The new year has been feast or famine for the Shamrocks. First, they dropped a heartbreaker to Winston, losing on a last second 3-pointer. Then, they rebounded in a big way, winning handily over Grundy County in Newtown-Harris, who coops with the Panthers in basketball. Then, they dropped a 33-24 game to Maysville in a game which Coach Aaron Long said the effort was there, but the shots were not falling. Then, the Shamrocks once again rebounded in a big way, beating the winless East Harrison squad 55-19 Wednesday night.
East Harrison has not been competitive in their losses; their closest game was 19 points, and they have broken the 20 point barrier three times. North Harrison made sure that would continue as Jayliegh Robins got four steals in the first few minutes of the game, six in the first quarter, and nine for the game.
Meanwhile, North Harrison began driving to the basket at will; Kami Gibson slashed to the rim twice and added a free throw, Emma Craig scored off a drive and off a Jaci Davis tip and steal, Jayliegh Robins scored off a Camden Castleberry skip pass and a free throw, and Camden hit two free throws as North Harrison pitched a 16-0 shutout in the first quarter.
Decii Hartsock kept her squad in the game with six in the first 4:26 of the second quarter as the Bobcat deficit stayed at 16 at 22-6. But then Kami Gibson scored off a steal, Camden Castleberry hit a 3-pointer and added a free throw, Emma Craig went coast to coast, Trendi Johnson and Jayliegh Robins had free throws, and Jaci Davis hit Jayliegh Robins on the right baseline at the buzzer to make it 34-6 at halftime.
The bottom dropped out on East Harrison in the third quarter as North Harrison scored 13 in just under four minutes to start the second half. Camden Castleberry got the hot hand for North Harrison, getting behind the Bobcat defense on a couple of occasions, getting a couple of steals, and getting a pass from Kami Gibson after a steal for nine points in the period. Jayliegh Robins added four in the frame.
By the time the dust had settled, North Harrison had four players in double figures. Camden Castleberry had 15, Emma Craig 12, Kami Gibson 11, Jayliegh Robins 10, Trendi Johnson 5, and Erin Virtue 2. It was the second night of 15 or more points for Camden.
Emma Craig had 7 boards. Jayliegh Robins had 5, Erin Virtue 4, Camden Castleberry 3, Kami Gibson and Jaci Davis 2, and Trendi Johnson and Halle Morgan 1.
Kami Gibson had 7 assists. Jayliegh Robins had 5, Emma Craig and Camden Castleberry 3 each, Jaci Davis 2, and Trendi Johnson 1.
Camden Castleberry had 10 tips. Trendi Johnson had 5, Jayliegh Robins 3, Emma Craig and Kami Gibson 3 each, Halle Morgan and Erin Virtue 2, and Jaci Davis 1.
Jayliegh Robins had 9 steals. Trendi Johnson had 6, Kami Gibson and Camden Castleberry 4 each, Jaci Davis 2, and Halle Morgan, Emma Craig, and Erin Virtue 1 each.
