Dobbins Posts 17, Cline Gets Double Double as Mustangs Beat Hawks

North Nodaway overcame a slow start with a strong second and fourth quarter, Jadon Dobbins had 17, and Jacquelyn Cline had a double double with 13 points and 14 boards, her first ever at the varsity level, as North Nodaway beat Gilman City 45-21 Thursday.

The Hawks came in with something to prove, as they played North Nodaway evenly, broke their press, and took an 8-6 lead after one quarter. But in the second, Jacquelyn Cline started one of her big scoring spurts as she hit back to back 3-pointers to start the second and fueled the Mustangs throughout the second by pushing it up the floor. Jadon Dobbins got behind the Hawk defense and got a pass from Cline on one play and Saryn Brown cleaned up on a Cline steal with two free throws to make it 16-8.

The game was brutally physical, with two Hawk players shaken up and Lauren Herndon rolling her ankle after a collision late in the second with North Nodaway up 17-8. Despite Herndon’s absence, North Nodaway continue to pull away, getting drives from Cline and Brown and a 3-pointer from Jadon Dobbins to go up 24-13 at the half.

Herndon came back and hit two 3-pointers in the third quarter to foil Gilman City’s comeback bid; Dobbins added five. North Nodaway led 35-21 after three.

In the fourth, Dobbins hit a free throw, Cline got loose off an inbounds play and got a pass from Herndon, Saryn Brown hit Herndon backdoor, Jadon Dobbins hit a 3-pointer, and North Nodaway was able to sub freely as they pitched a shutout in the fourth quarter.

Freshman Angeline Parker, pressed into service against West Nodaway due to North Nodaway being shorthanded, looked a lot more confident Thursday, and she followed Saryn Brown in during a drive and cleaned up with a putback for her first varsity points in the period. Sarah Wray came in and grabbed some boards and showed some scrappy play.
