Funeral services for Bud Meek, age 94 were held Thursday, January 21, 2021 at 10 AM at Cummings Family Funeral Home. Interment was held at Athelstan Cemetery.
James LeRoy "Bud" Meek was born April 9, 1926 to Vern and Alta (Denim) Meek in Worth County, Missouri and entered into peace January 15, 2021 at the Worth County Convalescent Center in Grant City, Missouri.
Bud and his family moved to a farm near Athelstan, Iowa in 1936. Bud grew up attending grade school in Athelstan and graduated from Blockton High School in 1945. Following his graduation he joined his father with the farming operation.
Bud served his country in the United States Army from 1951 to 1953. He was stationed in Europe during his service and traveled to many different European nations on his leave time. Following his honorable discharge from the army Bud returned home to continue the farming operation with his father and brother Edgar.
Bud was united in marriage to Pansylene Morris on March 14, 1954. To this union one child James LeRoy Meek Jr. was born. Together the couple enjoyed the farming lifestyle and all that it had to offer. Bud and Pansylene were married for 31 years until her passing in 1985.
On January 18, 1997 Bud was united in marriage to Evelyn Sickels. They continued living on the farm until Evelyn's passing in 2000.
Through the years Bud enjoyed anything that had to do with farming. It was his "true calling." Whether it was drinking coffee in Sheridan and talking about farming, driving around checking crops, or physically working on the land, Bud was never far from the farm either in thought or by action. Bud especially loved his family. He was a very thoughtful and kind man.
Bud is survived by his son, James LeRoy Meek Jr.; sister-in-law, Anne Meek; niece, Lynn Rae (Andy) Thurman; nephews, Butch Thomas, Dean Thomas, and David (Beth) Meek; step-daughters, Rena (Steve) Searl and Rosalyn (James) Cummings; as well as many great-nieces, great-nephews, cousins and friends.
Bud is preceded in death by wives Pansylene Meek and Evelyn Meek; his parents, Vern and Alta Meek; sister Estelee Thomas and brother, Edgar Meek.
