Karson Oberhauser Has Triple Double as Mustangs Beat DeKalb

Karson Oberhauser had a triple double Monday night as the North Nodaway Mustangs got their first win of the season, a 52-40 win over DeKalb. The teams were a mirror image of each other, with both trying to drive to the basket and score or kick out and take three-pointers. But it was Karson who was the best player on the floor that night, dishing out assists at will; he was a force on the boards as well. He had 14 points, 15 boards, and 11 assists for the Mustangs.

The game started off as a defensive standoff for most of the first half until Karson Oberhauser got untracked with a three point play at the 2:52 mark of the second to put his team in front 14-10. He followed with a 3-pointer.

DeKalb cut it to 17-13 with a three-point play, but then Aydan Blackford scored off a drive, Damien Dailey got a tip that led to a Karson Oberhauser steal that led to a basket from Dailey, and then Andrew Blackford scored off a drive off a pass from Aydan Blackford to put the Mustangs’ lead into double digits. DeKalb countered with a free throw, but Andrew Blackford kicked it out to Karson Oberhauser for three to make it 26-14 at the break.

Karson Oberhauser hit Aydan Blackford for three to start the second half, but then DeKalb started coming back, hitting tough shot after tough shot to close to within 32-22, and then 33-24. But Aydan Blackford and Andrew Blackford both scored off drives late in the third to restore order to put the Mustangs back in front 40-29 after three.

Aydan Blackford scored off a drive to start the fourth, but then DeKalb made another push, hitting a guarded three to make it 42-33 again with 6:12 left. But Karson Oberhauser kept a possession alive with an offensive board and fed Aydan Blackford for a drive, and then Aydan scored on a free throw to make it 45-33 again.

DeKalb cut it to nine again with a 3-pointer, got a stop, and a chance to cut it to six or seven, but Damien Dailey altered a shot and Aydan Blackford got to the rim yet again to score and added a pair of free throws, and DeKalb had to start fouling. North Nodaway hit their free throws down the stretch to get the win.

Aydan Blackford had 19 points. Karson Oberhauser had 14, Andrew Blackford 10, Damian Dailey 4, Jordan Jenkins 3, and Ethan Fry 2.

Karson Oberhauser had 15 boards for the Mustangs. Damian Dailey had 7; he was much stronger with the ball Monday night. Andrew Blackford had 6, and Aydan Blackford 1.

Karson Oberhauser had 11 assists. Andrew Blackford had 4 assists and Aydan Blackford and Damian Dailey had 1 each.
