Grant Cameron Has Career Night as Tigers Drop Bluejays

Grant Cameron had a career night for Worth County with 15 points as Worth County used another big quarter, the third, to drop Northeast Nodaway. The Tigers and Bluejays were playing each other close throughout the first half, but then Worth County used another big run to pull away and put the game out of reach, winning 72-48. Worth County had used a 34 point second quarter to beat King City earlier in the season.

Alex Rinehart staked out the Tigers to an 8-4 lead, but then picked up his second foul early. But then Jackson Runde picked up the slack, scoring the last nine points of the quarter for Worth County as they took a 17-13 lead. Northeast used balanced scoring to stay close as Dylan McIntyre and Auston Pride each had four in the period. 

Tyler New started off the scoring with a 3-pointer for Worth County, but then Northeast got steals on three straight possessions and converted to make it close again at 20-19. Ben Swalley’s free throws tied it up for the Bluejays at 24-24 with 4:06 left.

But then Aydan Gladstone got a putback for the Tigers and then went coast to coast after a Jackson Smith steal to make it 28-24, and then Worth County was able to gain some separation after Jackson Runde hit a 3-pointer after a pass from Aydan Gladstone with 45 seconds left to make it 33-27.

The Tigers finally got the game into double digits in the third quarter as Aydan Gladstone stole the initial inbounds pass for Northeast and converted, and Grant Cameron scored a 3-pointer for Worth County to finally make the lead double digits at 38-27. The third quarter was big for Grant, who had eight points in the period.

Auston Pride tried to carry the blue shirts on his shoulders, getting eight points in the period for the Bluejays. But then the bottom dropped out for Northeast after a critical sequence when Aydan Gladstone scored off drives on consecutive possessions, and then Grant Cameron stole the ensuing inbounds pass on the second score and converted to make it 49-35.

Northeast burned their third timeout, but then Jackson Runde cleaned up after a miss in transition to make it 51-35 with 2:58 left. Ben Bowell broke the run, but then Grant Cameron hit a 3-pointer, Jackson Runde hit two free throws, and Alex Rinehart scored off a pair of drives to push the Tiger lead over 20 at the end of three at 60-39.

Northeast tried their best to regroup in the fourth; they had come back from a 24 point deficit against St. Joseph Christian in the Platte Valley Invitational and brought their deficit down to nine before Christian won by 16. But Worth County never let their lead get below 20 as Alex Rinehart had six in the period for the Tigers.

Worth County had four players scoring 15 or more for the night. Alex Rinehart and Jackson Runde had 18 each, and Aydan Gladstone and Jackson Runde had 15 each. Tyler New had 6.

Aydan Gladstone and Alex Rinehart each had 2 blocks. Jackson Smith and Grant Cameron each had one.

Jackson Runde had 12 boards to complete the double double. Aydan Gladstone had 9, Jackson Smith 6, Alex Rinehart 4, Grant Cameron 3, and Tyler New 1.

Aydan Gladstone had 9 assists; he nearly had a triple double, as he had 9 boards to go with his 15 points. Jackson Runde had 4, Grant Cameron and Tyler New had 2 each, and Alex Rinehart, Jackson Smith, and Reid Gabriel each had 1.

Grant Cameron had 7 tips. Aydan Gladstone had 4, and Alex Rinehart, Tyler New, and Jackson Runde had 1 each.

Aydan Gladstone had 6 steals. Alex Rinehart and Tyler New had 3 each, and Jackson Smith, Jackson Runde, and Grant Cameron each had 2.

For Northeast Nodaway, Auston Pride had 16 points. Dylan McIntyre had 13, Ben Boswell 9, Colton Swalley and Lane Dack 4 each, and Zach Pride 2.

Auston Pride and Ben Boswell had 6 boards. Dylan McIntyre had 5, Zach Pride 4, and Colton Swalley 2.

Lane Dack had 5 assists. Zach Pride had 4, Dylan McIntyre and Colton Swalley 3 each, and Ben Boswell 2.

Ben Boswell had 5 tips. Lane Dack had 3, and Dylan McIntyre 2.

Dylan McIntyre had 4 steals. Colton Swalley, Lane Dack, and Ben Boswell all had 2, while Zach Pride had 1.
