Jill Boswell Has 15 Points, Cassy Redden 15 Boards as Bluejays Win

Jill Boswell led three Bluejays in double figures and Cassy Redden had 15 boards as Northeast Nodaway got their first win in three tries, beating Union Star 37-26 Tuesday night in the elimination round of the Platte Valley Invitational. Northeast overcame 23 turnovers and a ton of mistakes as they trailed for much of the game, but pulled ahead at the start of the fourth quarter to get the win.

It looked like Northeast was in control at first, as they overcame a ragged start to take a 6-2 lead after one. Cassy Redden hit two free throws and Jill Boswell scored from the right side off a pass from Meredith Adwell and hit a pullup.

But the first part of the second quarter was all Union Star, as they started moving the ball around at will and everything they threw up was going in. They got ahead by as much as 15-8 before Northeast put on the press and started fighting back. Anne Schieber got a tip and Jill Boswell a steal that she converted into free throws, and Anne Schieber scored to cut it to 15-12 at the half. 

Northeast hung around, but couldn’t get ahead until Cassy Redden hit Anne Schieber on the right wing and Jill Boswell in transition to put them up 20-19. But just like that, Union Star went back in front when a Bluejay defender slipped and fell and the Trojans converted. Anne Schieber’s free throw with 2.2 seconds left tied it back up at 21 going into the fourth.

Anne Schieber cut inside and got a pass from Cassy Redden, and then hit both free throws, and then Jill Boswell added a steal to finally put Northeast in front to stay. Anne Schieber hit Cassy Redden inside to make it 27-21.

Union Star hit a free throw, but then Jill Boswell put the team on her shoulders, hitting a free throw and then going coast to coast to make it 30-22.

Dalanie Auffert fouled out, but then Cassy Redden started cleaning up on the glass at will down the stretch, getting seven boards in the last few minutes of the game as she went into beast mode. Union Star got as close as 30-25, but then Anne Schieber inbounded in the backcourt against pressure to Redden, who took it in with 1:42 left for the dagger to make it 32-25. Schieber added a free throw, Redden got loose after Anne Schieber drove into the paint, and Schieber added two more free throws at the end.

Jill Boswell had 15 points for the Bluejays. Cassy Redden and Anne Schieber had 10 each, and Dalanie Auffert had 2.

Cassy Redden had 15 boards for a double double. Dalanie Auffert, despite battling foul trouble, still had 9, as did Anne Schieber. Jill Boswell had 5, Delaney McIntyre had 4, Tierney Privett 3, Meredith Adwell 2, and Saige Kohlleppel 1.

Cassy Redden had 4 assists. Anne Schieber had 3, and Meredith Adwell and Jill Boswell 1 each.

Anne Schieber had 8 tips. Jill Boswell had 3, Saige Kohlleppel and Meredith Adwell 2, and Cassy Redden, Delainey McIntyre, and Cassy Redden 1 each.

Jill Boswell had 5 steals. Anne Schieber and Cassy Redden had 4 each, Dalanie Auffert 3, Tierney Privett and Meredith Adwell 2 each, and Delaney McIntyre 1.
