Week Six Eight Man Football Rankings

#1 Pattonsburg 82, Rich Hill 48 – The Panthers trailed 30-24 against Rich Hill, who has not won a lot of games, but has played everybody tough. But the Panthers kicked it into high gear in the second half, putting up 58 as they came away with the Homecoming win. Pattonsburg is one of those teams which starts off slowly, but then gets better as the game progresses; their Stanberry win the week before showed a similar pattern.

#2 East Atchison 58, #8 Mound City 50 – This game lived up to its billing, as the game was back and forth all night before the Wolves came away with the eight point win. East Atchison remains unbeaten. The game was tied six different times before the Wolves scored in the last minute. With 4:36 left, East Atchison stopped a Panther extra point try to stay ahead 44-42. They had a chance to seal the game away on a 46 yard pass on fourth down from Jake McEnaney to Gus Hurst, but Mound City denied the extra point bid and ran back the ensuing kickoff and converted the extra points to tie it at 50-50 with 2:53 left.

East Atchison turned the ball over on downs, but then Mound City fumbled the ball right back. East Atchison made the most of their chance and Jake McEnaney scored from 4 yards out with 47 seconds left to put his team up 58-50. McEnaney got a pick with nine seconds left to seal the win.

#3 Worth County 28, #9 Orrick 6 – This one also lived up to its billing. The game was tied at 6-6 at the half before Worth County scored eight in the third and 14 in the fourth to come away with the win. Earlier in the year, Worth County was struggling defensively, while their offense could do no wrong. Friday’s game was a reversal, as the offense was struggling against the big front line of Orrick, while the defense turned in a gem. Orrick came into the game with almost 500 yards a game, but Worth County held them to 152. Once again, the success of GRC and 275 teams against the rest of the field can no longer be taken for granted.

#4 Southwest Livingston 58, Platte Valley 12 – A breather for the Wildcats against Platte Valley this week. Mack Anderson had another banner day, with 10 completions in 19 attempts for 164 yards. He added 18 carries for 250 yards, including a 70 yard score. On the other end, he added a 45 yard scoop and score. Chase Neptune had 5 catches for 109 yards, including a 65 yard strike.

Defensively, Southwest was led by Balazs Sturgeon with 10 tackles. Southwest controlled the line of scrimmage for the game, as out of 41 plays that Platte Valley ran, nine of them went for losses. They forced three Platte Valley turnovers, two picks and Anderson’s fumble return.

#5 Appleton City 90, Pleasanton (KS) 62 – Appleton City survived a shootout with their Kansas foes and remains one of three unbeaten teams in Missouri eight man football. Appleton City won by a similar margin (62-24) over Rich Hill as Pattonsburg did, so they will be a formidable foe for the teams north of Highway 36. Their stiffest challenge this year was a 50-40 win over Drexel on September 6th; that remains Drexel’s only loss.

#6 North Shelby 62, Chilhowee 12 – A breather for North Shelby, who has been taking care of business and moving up the rankings following their breakthrough win over North Andrew earlier. They took a 32-6 lead after one and led 46-6 at the half. Cale Stonebruner completed 8 of 9 passes for 247 yards, including a 65 yarder. Justin Lunsford had 9 carries for 86 yards. Elijah Greenwell had 3 catches for 100 yards. Brendyn McDaniel had 1 catches for 65 yards, while Rowdy Vanskike had 4 catches for 79 yards.

Defensively, Lunsford led in tackles with 8, while Luke Schwanke had 5.5 tackles for loss. Out of 45 Chilhowee plays run from scrimmage, 11 resulted in a loss of yardage. This includes six sacks.

#7 Drexel/Miami 61, Northwest Hughesville 6 – Drexel ran 29 times for 285 yards at a 9.8 yards per carry clip as they got a breather. They were up 46-0 at the half.

Ethan Irvin ran 5 times for 103 yards and threw for 66 more in the win. Cory Cumpton had 4 carries for 65 yards and Jacob Coffey had 10 carries for 64 yards. All are underclassmen. Cumpton had a punt return for a touchdown, while Adam Gilbert had a pick six defensively.

#10 North Andrew 52, Stanberry 12 – Jaden Baker threw for 161 yards and eight different North Andrew backs ran for 230 yards as the Cardinals broke open a close 12-6 game and led 34-6 at the half. Clayton Linville had 3 catches for 81 yards. Four of Baker’s seven completions went for scores.
Defensively, Brayden Brincks and Clayton Linville had 11 tackles each. Carson Thomas had seven tackles and four tackles for loss. North Andrew had two fumbles, but forced five Bulldog turnovers, three fumble recoveries and two picks from Jaden Baker to win the turnover battle.
