Courthouse News for October 9th, 2019

Between September 9th and October 1st, 20 storage units and Sun Valley Lake off J20 in Ringgold County were broken into. Stolen were fish tackle, deer stand accessories, and tools.

On October 1st, Worth County Prosecutor Janet Wake Larison filed charges against Jentry Freemyer (18) of Fairfax alleging Minor in Possession.

On October 1st, Worth County Prosecutor Janet Wake Larison filed charges against Eric Wilson (54) of Niceville (FL) alleging Hunting Deer with Bait.

On October 1st, Worth County Prosecutor Janet Wake Larison filed charges against Jeffrey Dangerfield (34) of Defuniak Springs (FL) alleging Hunting Deer with Bait.

On October 1st, Nodaway County Prosecutor Robert Rice filed charges against Stacey Smith (42) of St. Joseph alleging No Valid License.

On October 1st, Nodaway County Prosecutor Robert Rice filed charges against Christine Deason-Gowin (38) of Burlington Junction alleging Driving While Revoked, No Insurance, and Displaying Plates Belonging to Another.

On October 2nd, Gentry County Prosecutor Jessica Jones filed charges against Ronald Hurkman (56) of Stanberry alleging DWI.

On October 2nd, Nodaway County Prosecutor Robert Rice filed charges against Nathan Brown (30) of Parnell alleging Sex Offender in Illegal Location (Felony) and Violating Condition of Lifetime Supervision (Felony).

On October 2nd, Nodaway County Prosecutor Robert Rice filed charges against Benjamin Runge (33) of Maryville, Greg Esterling (68) of Glenwood (IA), Alexandra Lammert (25) of Neola (IA), and Alexis Castillo (19) of Maryville,  alleging No Insurance.

On October 2nd, Nodaway County Prosecutor Robert Rice filed charges against Mark Diggs (57) of Helena (MO) alleging Careless & Imprudent Driving (Accident). On October 7th, Rice filed an additional charges of Driving While Revoked.

On October 2nd, Grant City Fire and Ambulance units were called to a home on High Street which was full of smoke.

On October 2nd, Harrison County Prosecutor Jonathan Meyer filed charges against Howard Berner (74) of Cowgill (MO) alleging No Valid License.

On October 2nd, Special Prosecutor Myra Stout filed charges in Harrison County against Caleb Pugh of Cameron alleging Non-Support (Felony).

On October 2nd, Harrison County Prosecutor Jonathan Meyer filed charges against Anthony Hurst (31) of New Hampton alleging Domestic Assault (Felony) and Possession of Drug Paraphernalia.

On October 2nd, Harrison County Prosecutor Jonathan Meyer filed charges against Carson Dreyer (25) of West Des Moines alleging DWI and Speeding (20-25 mph over).

On October 2nd, Harrison County Prosecutor Jonathan Meyer filed charges against Jima Whitmore (40) of St. Joseph alleging DWI (Person less than 17 in vehicle).

On October 2nd, Harrison County Prosecutor Jonathan Meyer filed charges against Sartaj Sangh Dhillon (28) of Visalia (CA) alleging Careless & Imprudent Driving (Accident).

On October 2nd, Harrison County Prosecutor Jonathan Meyer filed charges against Gregory McKee (61) of Joliet (IL) alleging Careless & Imprudent Driving (Accident).

 On October 2nd, Secretary of State Jay Ashcroft’s Securities Division ordered Joseph Drake Ritchie and his company to cease and desist after he allegedly engaged in dishonest business practices. Joseph Drake Ritchie is a registered investment adviser agent in Missouri operating Drake Investment Options LLC, also a registered entity. Since at least 2015, Ritchie is alleged to have engaged in dishonest or unethical business practices. Ritchie allegedly conducted options trades for some clients which were not suitable and guaranteed clients’ profits while trading in options. The division also alleges he borrowed money from at least one client, and didn’t disclose all material information to at least one client regarding his fees. The division ordered Ritchie and his company to show cause why their registrations should not be revoked and why civil penalties and investigation costs of more than $75,000 should not be imposed.

On October 2nd, Secretary of State Jay Ashcroft’s Securities Division ordered unregistered firm Mavixbtc Limited to cease and desist after they allegedly misled investors.  From at least Sept. 23, 2019, Mavixbtc, a St. Louis-based cryptocurrency company, has been allegedly misleading the investing public through its website. Mavixbtc falsely claims to be registered with the Financial Industry Regulatory Authority and the Securities Investor Protection Corporation. The company also fraudulently uses the registration number of a registered investment adviser representative who has no knowledge of Mavixbtc.  Mavixbtc offers brokerage and investment advisory services when it is not registered to offer such services. In trying to sell investments in cryptocurrency, Mavixbtc uses its website to tout potential investment returns of up to 55% in as little as six days. The division ordered Mavixbtc to show cause why restitution, civil penalties and investigation costs of more than $30,000 should not be imposed.

On October 2, 2019, at about 4:00 PM, Nodaway County Deputies were dispatched to check on an abandoned, suspicious vehicle on Neon Road, north of Hwy. 136, near Ravenwood. After arriving, the Deputy made contact with a man at the car. The Deputy observed a syringe cap and alcohol in plain view inside the car. After obtaining consent to search, the Deputy found a loaded syringe inside the vehicle. A sample of the contents in the syringe field tested positive for methamphetamine. Prosecuting Attorney Rice has charged Gary Joseph Spire, age 65, of Parnell, with Possession of a Controlled Substance, a class D Felony.

On Friday, October 4, 2019, at 8:25 AM, the Page County Iowa Sheriff’s Office contacted Nodaway County about a motorcycle pursuit that may come into northern Nodaway County. The Page County Deputy said the motorcycle was exceeding 120 mph per hour. The driver of the motorcycle crossed into Nodaway County on 71 highway. The Page County Deputy turned off his emergency equipment as he crossed into Missouri, and reported that he believed the motorcycle was on fire. A Nodaway County Deputy found the motorcycle and driver on 71 highway about ½ mile north of the Burlington Jct. T at 71 and 136. The Page County Deputy was with the alleged driver. The alleged driver of the motorcycle had a suspended Missouri license and he was taken into custody. An arrest warrant was issued for the alleged driver by Page County Authorities, charging him with Eluding and Speed 25 over the limit, an aggravated misdemeanor. His bond was $2,000.00. Jeffery Dean Robison Jr, age 36, of El Dorado Springs, MO, was served the Iowa warrant while he was being held in the Nodaway County Jail.

On October 4th, Harrison County Prosecutor Jonathan Meyer filed charges against Heather Booth (33) of New Hampton alleging Operating Motor Vehicle Owned by Another Without Insurance.

On October 4th, Harrison County Prosecutor Jonathan Meyer filed charges against Lareina Doty (25) of Waterloo (IA) alleging No Valid License.

On October 4th, Harrison County Prosecutor Jonathan Meyer filed charges against Tony Bennett (27) of Cainsville alleging Unlawful Possession of a Firearm (Felony) and Leaving the Scene (Felony).

On October 4th, Nodaway County Prosecutor Robert Rice filed charges against Amberlee Wilmot (37) of Hastings (NE) alleging Forgery (Felony) and Passing a Bad Check (Felony).
On October 4th, Nodaway County Prosecutor Robert Rice filed charges against Ryan David (18) of Omaha alleging DWI.

On October 4th, Nodaway County Prosecutor Robert Rice filed charges against Brandon Joyner (35) of Maryville alleging Unlawful Possession of a Firearm (Felony), Resisting Arrest, Possession of Marijuana, Possession of Drug Paraphernalia, and Delivery/Possession of a Prohibited Item at a Prison.

On October 5th, Harrison County Prosecutor Jonathan Meyer filed charges against Eric Harris (41) of Bethany alleging Assault (Felony).

Delson Grantham, 22, of Fontanelle, was arrested in the 2700 block of Highway 2 in Taylor County on October 6, 2019. He was charged with Operating a Motor Vehicle Under the Influence of Alcohol 2nd Offense. Grantham was additionally charged with Driving While License Suspended and cited for Speeding 68 in a 55 mile per hour zone. Grantham is being held at the Taylor County Jail on $2,300 bond pending an initial appearance with the Magistrate.

On October 7th, the Missouri State Highway Patrol arrested Marion Lewis (64) of Bolckow (MO) in Nodaway County on charges of DWI.

On Monday, October 7th, at about 6:50 AM, the Nodaway County Sheriff’s Office was notified of a suspicious man in a pickup on a farm on Mahogany Road in rural Ravenwood. A Trooper, Deputy, and the Sheriff responded and found the suspect. The suspect was out on bond having been previously charged with distribution. The Deputy saw a loaded syringe in the pickup and the suspect was taken into custody. A spoon and methamphetamine was found on his person. A search was conducted at the suspect’s Conception Junction home and a loaded shotgun was found next to the bed. The suspect was a convicted felon and he was prohibited from possessing firearms. The Nodaway County Prosecutor has charged Christopher C Wiederholt, age 59, with two class D felonies. Possession of a controlled substance and unlawful possession of a firearm. He is currently held in the Nodaway County Jail.

On October 7th, Special Prosecutor Myra Stout filed charges against Lydia Hart (34) of Albany in Harrison County alleging Non-Support (Felony).

On October 7th, Harrison County Prosecutor Jonathan Meyer filed charges against Kenneth Wayne Willis (48) of Lee’s Summit alleging DWI and Failure to Drive on Right Half of Roadway.

On October 8th, Harrison County Prosecutor Jonathan Meyer filed charges against Lucas Wayne Ballanger (31) of Leon alleging No Valid Interstate Fuel License.

Charges listed are mere allegations. Evidence in support of the charges must be presented before a court of competent jurisdiction whose duty it is to determine guilt or innocence. All defendants are presumed innocent until proven guilty.
