Week Nine Football Rankings

Our final rankings:
#1 East Atchison (9-0)
#2 Southwest Livingston (8-1)
#3 Appleton City (9-0)
#4 Pattonsburg (8-1)
#5 Mound City (7-2)
#6 Drexel (7-2)
#7 Orrick (7-2)
#8 North Shelby (7-2)
#9 North Andrew (7-2)
#10 Worth County (6-3)

Many of the top teams had breathers in the final week. East Atchison beat Platte Valley 48-0. Southwest Livingston beat King City 68-14. Mound City won a halftime game 52-0 over Rock Port. Drexel won 67-0 over Kansas City East. North Andrew won 66-0 over Braymer, feasting on five turnovers and seven sacks; 12 different players got to carry the ball.

Three teams survived tough challenges against rapidly improving teams. Pattonsburg got a big halftime lead on Albany, but the Warriors, who had collapsed against Worth County, fought back and had chances to get back in the game before Pattonsburg put them away for the 90-64 win. Stanberry got one of their key players back in Collin Sager and that made a big difference as they had their chances against Worth County before falling 48-28. Norborne/Hardin-Central nearly spoiled Appleton City’s bid for an undefeated season before falling 22-12.

Orrick showed that their strong showing against Worth County despite their 28-6 loss, without Blake Buchanan, was no accident. With Buchanan back, they had a big second quarter and then fended off North Shelby in the second half as they successfully navigated the long bus ride to North Shelby and got the 38-30 win. That represented the one major shakeup in the rankings this week.
