Maryville Man Seriously Injured After Falling Asleep

A Maryville man was seriously injured Wednesday at around 5:40 am after he fell asleep at the wheel. The Missouri State Highway Patrol reports that a 2015 Chrysler 200 driven by Colt Gardiner (35) of Maryville was southbound on 71 ten miles south of Maryville, near Route A, which turns west to go to Graham. The vehicle traveled off the east side of the roadway. The driver overcorrected, traveled off the west side, went airborne, and struck an embankment. The vehicle came to rest on the west side of the roadway facing south.

Gardiner received serious injuries and was taken to Mosaic Life Care in St. Joseph. He was not wearing a seat belt at the time of the accident. The vehicle was totaled.
