Obituary -- Wayne Owens 1940-2018

Wayne Owens, 77, of Hopkins, MO, died Friday, February 9, 2018, at his home in rural Hopkins.
Wayne was born July 25, 1940 to Lester Dale and Doris Wilson Owens on a farm east of Hopkins. He spent his entire life within three miles of his birthplace. On November 22, 1964 he married Ruthie Koger at the Hopkins Church of Christ. They lived, after marriage, on the Century Farm on the Leonard and Mae Owens farm.

Wayne was a 1958 graduate of Hopkins High School, a farmer and seed corn salesman of NC+ and later Channel Seeds.

He was known as the "ice cream man" around Hopkins. He ran the soft serve machine for many gatherings at the Hopkins Community Building.

Wayne was a member and elder of the Hopkins Christian Church, former member of the Hopkins Rescue Squad, active in the Hopkins Community Club, and Lions Club, where he was President.
Wayne was preceded in death by his parents, brothers Donald and Larry, and brother-in- law Bob Stevenson.

He is survived by his wife; Ruthie Owens, of their home. sons Kevin (Annetta), Bruce (Polly) and Daryl (Cindy), brother Terry (Melodee), sisters, Shirley Stevenson, Betty (Weldon) Dowden, sister-in-law June Owens- Boswell, many cousins, and nieces and nephews. He was blessed with several step-grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

A visitation will be held from 9:00 -10:00 AM, Tuesday, February 13, 2018 at the First Christian Church, Hopkins. A funeral service will follow the visitation at 10:00 AM, Burial will be at Hopkins Cemetery, Hopkins.

Memorials can be made to the First Christian Church, Hopkins.
