Northeast Nodaway’s boys clinched their first winning season since 2010-2011 with their 58-18 win over Osborn Friday during Homecoming. They were 18-7 that year under Coach Ryan Madden, with Bryce Farnan and Colby Wiederholt anchoring that team.
They beat Trenton 62-57 for third place at the South Harrison Tournament, with Bryce Farnan making a highlight film play when he grabbed an offensive board while falling down. He flipped the shot up off the glass just before hitting the deck, drew the three point play, and hit his free throw. He was a rebounding force for the Bluejays, while Colby provided steady guard play. That team also had Aaron Patton (The General), Kevin Stoll, and Tyler Schmitz playing.
That team also survived a 100-93 win over King City for the third place game of the King City Tournament in a game that spanned six overtimes. King City made a three pointer from just behind the halfcourt line to extend the game one period, and one of their 3rd stringers hit a guarded three to extend it another period. Current Worth County boys coach Bryce Schafer was in the building that game as an assistant for King City. NEN played the entire six overtimes without Farnan, who had fouled out late in regulation. Current NEN guard Blair Stoll is the sister of Kevin.
Friday’s win over Osborn had little of the suspense of either of those games. The Wildcats are winless this year and have been held to 8 and 15 points by South Nodaway and to 15 by Winston. They have replaced Union Star in the cellar of the 275, falling to them twice this year. They have eight players listed in Friday’s program, but only had five dressed out.

The second quarter was more of the same. Weir got six more, Dylan Mildfeldt had six as well, and Cameron Staples got untracked with five in the period. Northeast led 45-8 at the half.
